Town vs War Base

I recently joined an alliance and started WW. For a war base I copied my town but this is the beginning of my confusion. I built my town to protect oil and that obviously is not a concern in war. I would like to redo my war base to better suit for war.

Since all upgrades take place in the town, how would I get those updates into war base? Copy and paste would change war base back to town. And I can’t see redoing this process as each upgrade completes, whether it’s a building or wall.

I hope I am making sense. Am I missing something? How do I update war base if it differs from town?????????

Cougar, yes, most definitely town and war bases differ greatly in layout as you mentioned. Luckily we have two tabs in the editor with three layouts of each type and upgrades are automatic among all six slots. In other words, when you upgrade your missile silo on your active town layout, it will also be upgraded on all of your other layouts, so no need to copy the upgrade forward - it will just be there.

Nexon also gave us a handy way to copy town layouts to other town slots or to a war slot. But for reason unknown to me, you cannot copy a war layout to a town slot. This has always bothered me - perhaps there is a reason I don’t see.

Thanks Black Tiger, I appreciate the information. Obviously I missed the obvious lol. I hope the same applies for walls. I can test that quickly enough. Time to go experiment. Thanks again!

If you upgrade a building in your town (that already exists in your war base) it will be updated automatically in your war base - no need to copy it over

If you build a NEW building in your town (that doesn't already exist in your war base), then you need to copy it over - or use the edit button in the map editor to simply add it on.

But for reason unknown to me, you cannot copy a war layout to a town slot. This has always bothered me - perhaps there is a reason I don’t see.

The reason you can copy from town to war base but not the other way round was explained to me by Tin Soldier a long time ago, and I can't remember the exact reason. But I think it has something to do with the fact that you can have some structures in your town that can't exist in your war base (mines, trees, gold deposits etc.)

I find it easier to build my war base in one of the town slots and to copy it over to the war base from there. Then if I add a new building in the town slot I can just copy the whole thing over without having to edit the war base.

I don't know if I've explained myself very clearly here...hahaha......hope it helps....

TOWN BASE is build/created to protect resources. Buildings to protect are Storehouse (stores items like diamonds and items for war coalitions), markets, mills, oil. Your farms if you have room. Use your walls to build small boxes. DO NOT build one big wall around everything. Make the enemy break through many walls. This will slow them down and give yo7 more time to defend. DO NOT use walls and build double triple layers. Does not work well. Also, connect your roads to your town center to as many buildings as possible. This will earn more gold from your road and make your town center stronger. You can check your “Road Connectivity %” in game. Mke sure buildings that spawn troops have a way to get out to defend. Use your gates. Your town can remain outside walls since it stores a small portion of your resources.

WAR BASE is built To protect your town center. Resources can not be stolen in war, no need to protect them...use them as a first line of defense. I build in layers. Starting from the outside in this way. Resources (spread them out...do not clump together...they are high hit points and an easy way to get 50% quick victory stars), put a resource right by a shooting or spawning buildings to help your troops attack while the enemy is taking down a resource. Layer two.... buildings that defend (follow above rules about walls, roads, gates). Center of the base and most protected is the Town center.

Hope this helps.
