in my opinion they will never change the upgrade/research time.there can't be more ages in a short time,in fact the drone age takes more than 1 year to be available.if we use only 1-2 months to finish all the upgrade in an age then we won't be interested in this game soon;and they won't sell the speed ups or crowns in store.also the less we play the fewer chance we are willing to buy any other items.so I feel pessimistic on whether they will make any change.

Generally I see requests to lower the times for the earlier ages, which makes sense from a business standpoint. I rarely see people asking for highest age times to be reduced (except when the new age releases. I expect drone age times approaching a month).

the early ages aren’t competitive like the current ages are. It’s a cakewalk down there. That’s where it gets boring.
