Oh geez. I'm not high enough level to use a general yet, but it seems as though they are used just as any other unit (all units cost resources and time), just with a cool-down. In that case, I would think you just have to be smart about how you use him. Andy's suggestion seems like the best...

I am at max for the amount of diamonds I can carry. What can I use them for, other than creating units that I'm not high enough level to create yet?

I love the name and that you didn't just come out and say "Hey, I need members. Join my alliance." You're fun :) I am currently upgrading to the Iron age, so I can not join an alliance quite yet, but I would love to join once I'm able to.
