I’ve been playing about 3 1/2 years and am Cold War level 258. I have not joined an alliance, so no WW obviously. What I’m wondering is, what are the advantages or reasons to join one and partake in ww’s?? I don’t need resources since it takes over 2 weeks to upgrade anything, so that’s not a reason in my opinion.

its become very obvious Nexon wants everyone in an alliance, both from the overt push notifications as well as making “alliance goals” as part of their events. What they have really done is make players like myself play even less. Why have events that exclude so many players?

So what are the reasons to join? And yes, this is my first post and I did register just to inquire about this.

I used to war a lot and it was very fun for a long time. There is certainly a great deal of strategy, intrigue and drama combined with Alliance comradeship during wars. And now and then the thrill of a close victory or defeat can be momentous. Some devote their entire game to war, such as building attack while keeping war weight down for advantage, and the planning of each upgrade can be deep and rewarding.

But from a pure resource and progress standpoint, wars are a negative influence. Frankly the cost of war far exceeds the resource rewards, and the concessions you need to make to be great at war hold you back in multiplayer. Also, some alliances have very little patience for someone who is not a great warrior and will criticize or kick you for not living up to their expectations.

My advice would be to give it a try, but if you feel it’s not for you, you aren’t missing much from an advancement perspective despite recent efforts to push you into an alliance. Personally I would join a good non-warring alliance if I could find one, but they seem elusive.

I started playing in the early days since 2015 along with my brother whom started an alliance we both run to this day. Personally, our particular group isn't as picky as most competitive alliance but we do run World Wars constantly to acquire rubies. Aside from getting rubies though, there's a sense of satisfaction that comes from defeating stronger enemy bases in war. But what's even more pleasing is when you have a decked out opp fail to annihilate your base. xD

Aside from that, I personally think the game is more enjoyable with a group of people. But that's just my opinion :D

Hi Cougar, and welcome to your forums. You ask 2 great questions: Why alliance and why war?
The two previous answers are spot on and here’s some more technical jargon. Alliances offer bonus perks to every members’ individual base such as traps more powerful or your roads generate more gold - that sort of thing. Also the new Parliament building, (more perks), will grow faster with a population contributing to it. And of course the social, supportive, and advise a warm group can offer. Read more about perks here:
https://dominations.fandom.com/wiki/Alliance_Perk
As far as wars, it is almost a separate game. As mentioned above the thrill of competition, the puzzle solving and maneuvering against an opponent, and of course relishing in watching a flawed replay against your base! (Or tearfully watching a crush against your cleverly laid out defense). Supporting war can split your resources into developing the war-side of your museum which will take time and rss. Rubies won are often saved & spent on 8-count Troop Chests. I know of very few players who buy the other overpriced offerings.
As a solo player who had made it thus far, you may not be interested in attack advice, etc. But maybe you can find a social outlet, international conversation, or just some exposure to others’ replays. War is not a requirement when joining most alliances, and some alliances even have very quiet people who are just ‘there’.
Feel free to check the Alliance Gate here in your forums and visit a few to see how it’s like! Even we are recruiting for regular or war members :) “Phoenix Legion“ Thanks for reading,

Aside from being good fun and helping the alliance gain XP, wars give me something to do while I wait (an eternity) for upgrades to finish...

I don't think I'd still be playing after 5 years if it weren't for the wars

Yes, non-warring alliances are an interesting phenomenon :) I always thought that without a war, the Alliance is not necessary, but there are really many people who want to be in the Alliance but do not want to fight. Why?
The Alliance gives you companionship - and this is the main thing! In addition, the troops for the attack and some other little things that I do not even think about, they were written above.
War gives you a team and a common goal that requires effort and expense. If you strained and reached the goal it will bring you a big fan and pleasure!
Warring alliances usually do not tolerate farmers - players who do not fight, this should be taken into account when you join the Alliance

"War, huh yeah! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing..."
That's how I feel about it. I rather choose my opponents freely, instead of having the obligation to attack #1 and #2 of enemy. Too much resources and time wasted for very little gain is how I feel about wars.

Thanks all for your responses, it is appreciated and gives me things to consider. One of my biggest concerns is being at my level but yet a complete newb to alliance’s and WW. Naturally, any alliance I join, just based on my level, will expect that I know what I’m doing. That could prove to be embarrassing haha. I just remember the learning curve early on in multiplayer and all the improvements I learned over time both offensive and defensive.

That learning curve never bothered me as my mistakes only hurt myself and the embarrassment level is low. All that would change. How can I tell what an alliance is like, such as “we war but are relaxed” verses “we war and if you suck we kick you”. I can’t tell much just looking at the list of alliances. Would I have to join first and then inquire?

I better read up on wars to see if I can figure this out. Do most people just copy their town as a war base?

...there are really many people who want to be in the Alliance but do not want to fight. Why?

It’s a good question. For me it was a question of skill and resolve. As my base grew and rose toward the top of my alliance, I began to draw tougher and tougher assignments. Before long, I was matching up against the very top opponents, and I realized that if I failed on attack, the whole war could be lost. Eventually, my attacks took on monumental importance in my own mind and inevitably I failed on some stout bases and took my performances pretty hard. I lost confidence in my skills and commitment and began to dread my attacks. What had once been a thrilling challenge now felt like a death sentence. It was then that I decided to opt out of war.

But being a big base sitting out in a warring alliance that only chats about war was no fun and I soon left even though my alliance mates were supportive. I then tried some high-level alliances where I was a smaller base attacking further down the list, but those alliances full of huge bases were also full of the top players in the world and very high expectations. Even more pressure to not only get 5 stars every single time, but to get them with a very fast time, and every attack scrutinized. Again I was simply not good or committed enough to compete and feel good about my performances so I left war behind for good. A paradox in that I had worked so hard to build a big base and drawn the spotlight, but exceeded my abilities. In my mind I became a fraud.

But don’t feel sorry for me, the 2-3 years I battled up the ladder were awesome and it was better and lasted longer than I could have expected. This was not the first game like this where I hit the glass ceiling. These days I log into Dominations when I want, build what I want, attack how I want, fail sometimes without embarrassment, ignore cheaters and the freaking museum, and feel no pressure. Life is good for a moderately-skilled L310 DA player that hasn’t been five-starred in multiplayer in a very long time.

This.
Think of it as your first steps. Don't think about wars, just join an alliance and get to know the people. If you make friends all well and good. If not, move on.
If you find an alliance you like then stay for the fun of it. If wars happen then it's a bonus. As a newb to wars, don't jump in right away - ease into it - the experienced players will help you (in a good alliance)
Check out the Alliance Gate - there's a lot of them that have a relaxed attitude. Good luck.

Good advice!
As an alliance member, there is the bonus that you can check your mates' attacks in war... This is very helpful, if you are at first feeling a bit shy about joining in. By viewing the replays of the most successful attacks against the toughest of enemies, you can learn a lot about war tactics. What works and what doesn't... Which troops and tactics help you to gain victories and how to use them. Then try to adjust your own attacks or perhaps modify your current methods to get better results.
