And then it suddenly dawned on me...

My daughter played DN for a few weeks and as expected quit because she's really a fps kinda girl. When she left, her base was in classical age. I pick up her tablet from time to time and have managed to get it to beginning medieval. I've been playing her game a lot the past couple days in order to get her account up to our alliance minimum. Then it suddenly dawned on me... This game is a lot more fun and less frustrating in early game (I know... Duh! Right? Lol). Aside from the unfortunate crashes it's actually thrilling to play the game and I can see how I got hooked in the first place. I just thought I'd take a trip down memory lane with the more seasoned peeps here and share my reasons why...
1. I don't get attacked within the first 5 min of my app closing or timing out. As a matter of fact, A couple times I went to bed and woke next morning to find the base untouched over night. All resources still there and traps set and ready to go.
2. When I open her account its kind of thrilling because I never know what I'm gonna find. Win? Loss? Close app? Untouched? Could be any of these and the defensive wins and losses are always for multiple medals ranging from 4 to twenty-something.
3. You heard me right in #2 I said defensive wins! Yes they do exist! There are still people out there who don't know about bailing when they are about to lose big and of course they are early age.
4. While it's kind of a pain that I don't have a tb, I don't really need one because a lot of the time my army comes back. This is something I haven't been able to master in my later game account and is a big source of frustration for me. Even when my army doesn't come back it only takes 13-15 minutes to train.
5. Speaking of time... Everything happens faster in early game. Hit a few bases, gather up rss, start upgrades and research, wait a few hours, upgrades done, research done, wash, rinse, repeat.
6. Attacking is easy! I never close app because I always win. And I usually win many medals each attack. I hardly skip any bases, I can find good ones right away and never, any1/-39 matches... EVER! There's no "no opponents found" reports, no insurmountable walls to destroy. No maxed out bases. Defensive armies are small and manageable. And it helps that I supply my little medieval army with nice big fat EA (soon to be IA) ally troops.
7. Walls are so cheap I can do several at a time. And the base is easy to rearrange since there aren't as many buildings to move around. And last but not least...
8. Three crowns for 4 bunnies? Yes please! The Old Man gives easier tasks and I'm winning crowns from achievements all the time.

So now I see why the early age people on forum think we are a bunch of whiners. They are having too much fun... They don't know that we want a little of that fun back too. Hopefully we will get it before our patience runs out.

Yup definitely fun in the early ages, plus you also have the benefit of playing in the early ages with the new updates and improvements. Although, the AI was much better when rally back in the days. BHG/Nexon needs to release new contents and alliance features, because it will get stale once people get to the higher ages.

Many of these perks are not exclusive to age, but also do apply at lower medal ranges.

that's true. I'm making the journey to 2,200 to get the crowns reward but have to admit it's kind of boring. Actually at 1,830 medals. If this is the same at 2,200+ i'm fully prepared to drop hard in medal and return the juicy 600-1000 medal range

Yes agreed and then probably 90% of the player base will quit in Gunpowder Age because that playing experience is not sustainable. You'll wait 15 minutes to retrain an army that will die every time, looting 100k gold max when you need 3m for the extra house. But I get the fresh feeling you're getting. This is how they manage to get people to buy the starter pack, early ages are easy and fun, you think you're in for the long run. You spend money in the game. Then you hit the wall of Gunpowder Age. Let us know how far you'll be taking that second account :)

It's getting sad, I put a 5 day peace treaty on my main account and I am starting to get bored with my second account.

I'm with hunter killer on this- I'm moving up from the 800 medal range, currently at 1,200 medals at EA, hoping to go higher to get those league rewards that make it worth it. Currently they're at 3.5k which isn't worth a damn when the upgrades are 3-4.5m each and you're lucky if you get 200k per win. Then lose the same in the next attack you receive 5minutes later when you log off whilst your raiders take 30 mins to train. Thinking about going lower in medals to get those easy 1 wall square bases- but ultimately, it's still highly inefficient

I'll go as far as it will take me :) I may have to confiscate her tablet before too long so I'm not limited to just playing when she's out of the house ;)

It has come to a point that I could not be bothered doing more battles. I have more fun chatting with people. :) I dread when I workers free.

Which is the main reason I stayed at gunpowder age until I reached level 100. I played sometimes 3 hours at a time or more when I had a day off. By the time I reached enlightenment, I researched everything thst I could and upgraded everything except my walls (too expensive). Now I just try to get enough for 1 upgrade (two if I have the patience), and log off.

I too remember the good old days when my samurai army would swarm like a bunch of angry ants at a picnic over a poor little classical base. It was a delight to watch. But then .. I advanced up as you do. Things got harder, as they should. But the joy of looting someone else's hard gained rss was worth the frequent and numerous deaths. I am so grateful that there is a "next " button, the simple pleasures of gaming life. A good alliance makes all the difference to my gaming experience.

I dropped from Kingdom 2 to Silver 3 last night and damn was it worth it! Suddenly I see bases with butter-like walls and arrogant little gunpowder armies destroying themselves for 300k food... And getting none! This style of playing isn't for everyone but if you're not that into the medal hustle then silver league is the best place to be :)

Yes, I'm a newer(ish) player still in early Gunpowder Age and have been having a lot of fun all along. Everything I read here seems to indicate that the real problems with the game are entrenched more at Industrial Age (and maybe Enlightenment Age as well?).

I progress at a fairly leisurely rate, as I prefer to max out everything before advancing to a new age (which, of course, takes an extraordinarily long time- especially when you consider the fact that I don't spend any money on this game). I'm hoping by the time I hit IA, most of the issues will be fixed. If not, I'll simply find a different game to play, I suppose.

Although, as I don't spend any money on the game, losing me as a player will be no inconvenience to Nexon/BHG in any event. Lol

The developer could adjust the game to make some of this possible for higher level and higher medal players.

1. Broaden the matching system to allow players to attack anyone within one age of themselves. (Currently, if you're low level, high medal, you match almost exclusively with lvl 150+, which is not really a good recipe for returning troops.)
2. Change the medal system to reward people for 5 starring and attacking above their levels.
3. Add workers or library research to require fewer workers for later stage upgrades. (Also possibly allow a player to double the workers on a project to accelerate the completion.)
4. Buff offense to allow for more returning troops.
5. Decrease training times across the board (outside of tb). Or add multiple production lines to factory and airstrip.

(There are more...)
