Are long war spins a 50/50 gamble ?

As I understand it the war spins open up the matching parameters wider over time. So we end up with a higher and higher chance of a mismatch as the time increases.
However in every mismatch there is a big winner and a big loser : is it too simplistic to think that an alliance has an even chance of actually benefitting from a long spin ?

Exact..i never understood this rule to widen up the parameters? Why? Just to,get a very bad or very easy war? But hey, they have to do it as there are not enough playing alliances...

Some people are impatient and want to war without worry of winning or losing (that said, they lack self-awareness and actually do care and complain loudly about matches they are the underdog... but that's another topic; complainers always find something to complain about) so they complain loudly about long war search times, and complain loudly that we don't have more war sizes (which also decreases the alliance pool per pool).

Bottom line, they are appeasing the loud complainers and also accounting for the alliance pool sizes.

That said, I agree, it's much better to search longer for a fair match than search shorter for a poor one. I'll never understand logic against this and feel they are doing it wrong and/or hearing the wrong complaints.

One user suggested having BHG servers only search at certain times (e.g., 14:00-18:00 UTC or whatever; I made this time block up without any thought) with the point being everyone would be searching around the same time. Start war search earlier and it'll still begin at the beginning time; so in theory a lot more alliances will start search at the same time thus creating a lot more fairer matches.

We usually respin our 20 wars around the hour and a half mark and have been able both to get a match, and have it be a reasonably fair contest. Just wondered what approach other alliances are taking.

I agree that having a defined window would probably help but I assume that this game available in most time zones. So maybe two 4 hour windows per day? Still not perfect, nothing would be given the game's global nature. Just thinking it would suck to be in the place where the daily window is from 2 to 6 am.

a 3 time per day window to match (aka every 8 hours) will satisfy players across all time zones.

Yes, that's a good idea. It is necessary to assign fixed start time of matchmaking with an interval of 4 or even 6-8 hour. The window time between them is just collecting requests for WW. When the Alliance leaders know this time clearly, there will be no problems. BHG must adapt to the decreasing number of live alliances, because they consciously reduce the player base.

P.S.
The interval should be selected, perhaps even 2 hours will show a good result.

We run thirties and usually respin after roughly an hour and a half. Then around 2 hours 15 minutes. Then every 3 hours after that. We rarely make it to a third spin and have never gone to a fourth. Matches are surprisingly solid, on paper anyway. According to Muet the matchmaking widens by 3.5% every 30 minutes, so assuming an ''even'' start, however the algorithm determines that, 3 hours provides a 21% variance which seems about right from what I'm seeing.

Long war spins in online games can indeed be a bit of a gamble. The wider matching parameters over time can increase the chance of a mismatch, as you mentioned. While it's true that in every mismatch there's a big winner and a big loser, it's not necessarily a 50/50 scenario. It depends on various factors, including the skill level and strategy of both alliances.
