Here's a workaround for those not enjoying life in top-ish alliances; especially those that contain all Space/Digital Age players. Alliances that constantly face 4 Bomber/Vickers attacks, and/or premium cards every war, and/or feel pressure to spend, and/or hate the 8x3 NTG grind, and/or are generally bored.

Travel.

Yes, that's a workaround. Travel alone (or with others) to alliances you've never been to before, and to alliances ranked much lower (say 500-3000) than you're used to.

Why? Here are a few reasons:
  • See how other (random) alliances do things
  • Teach others: e.g., to not use Demolition or Heavy Cavalry, what silo bait is, factory good, and so on
  • Fairer wars: A typical multi-aged war seems to better match more often than one with 10+ SA/DA
  • Potentially less RSS pressure: Many times you won't need troop tactics or 3 coalitions due to lower ranked opponents
Joining a random alliance (with or without a beefy account) can be (but isn't always) fun. Or maybe you do an alliance search for your favorite sports team, or city/country, or hobby, or TV show you like, ..., there are lots of these out there!

So while not a perfect solution it's worth trying. Things to keep in mind:
  • War: upon entrance always ask if (a) traveling for a war or two is okay and (b) if you can be in the next war -- nothing worse than waiting and missing a war and then being war locked
  • Frustration: there are a lot of poor attackers out there, and a decent sized portion fear change so won't truly listen ("what? but I _need_ my tanks and demolition and want to stay Global until all my Redoubts are maxed!")
  • Activity: some alliances slog thru wars with little chat (you may as well leave these alliances immediately; what's the point of being here?)
  • Be positive: this can be difficult but do try... don't be harsh yet still offer constructive feedback
  • Donation problems: folks will donate the wrong troops so be strategic on when you make war troop requests and be specific (troop donation anxiety is real)
  • Adjust: alliances do things differently so be flexible e.g., some don't call out attack targets
Other things to keep in mind:
  • Museum: remember to re-enable war artifacts when switching alliances
  • War lock: I forget every detail but it's a thing to worry about as we are war locked even if not in the war
Maybe others have general thoughts on the matter but please don't post travel-to-my-alliance-please requests here :)

I like to travel but this hasn't been always enjoyable. I met alliances that do not speak at all between themselves. It was a monologue basically!!
Other alliances that do not like someone tell them what they should change
Others that do not want to improve their gameplay. They like doing what they want even if it doesnt work.
Others that will kick you even if you are chatty and do not ask for troops
and the list goes on.....and on....

You have no idea how many alliances are out there in <near death> status!

So, somerandomplayer: how many alliances have you visited? How many of them were happy to get unasked advise? How long have you stayed with them?

Great idea. Can we request all alliance leaders to list their alliance names here who are willing to welcome ‘Travellers’?

SomeRandomPlayer is a good attacker that visited plenty of Alliances. Stayed with us for 2-3 Wars then moved on to next Alliance that I suggested.

I've traveled for a year or so now, typically for 1-3 wars. Most appreciate advice but must see it before appreciating it. Advise alone often falls on deaf (and slightly annoyed) ears, but demonstrating it makes some listen. Sure some feel "Oh I'm not the same Age so can't do that" or "That person must be a magical attacker, magic I do not possess" or "..." so I've learned to give up on some.

In any case, simply joining and immediately sharing a bunch of advice is not enough, nor is it wise. It's a slow process and one involving humans so the gentler the better :)

Yes, you have pointed out all the negative aspects but there are positive ones too. Many alliances are in a sad state and full of people not realizing how much better it can be. But, the reverse is also true, as there are happy alliances full of people eager to learn and have fun.

Also thank you LordStark263AC -- I enjoyed my visit and recommend others visit here. Relaxed, yet folks do donate the correct troops, are chatty, and are also willing to learn. A great combination :)

By all means anyone is welcome to visit at Drinkin Academy. I can't promise you a chatty bunch like at Dragonstone unfortunately, but I will personally do my best to make any travelers feel welcome.

SRP and I have different feelings about some aspects of this game but I wholeheartedly agree with him here. He's also a welcome visitor to any alliance, just don't become too attached.

The not talking thing is baffling. My alliance could be much better if more than a few people communicated. Plus, the long term players refuse to take ownership of responsibilities and will just let people with far lower levels and experience wander in off the street and give orders.

I get that some of us have more time and inclination than others but just touching base before doing war attacks or when deciding to promote newbies maybe adds five minutes to their Domi days. It just seems strange to play a game for four+ years but have zero interest in anything beyond the attack right in front of them.

I have traveled to different alliances and it is a good way to learn. In my humble opinion, the HT bait-ball/Commando formula does not work that well once the defender has completed Saladin research...works even worse if defender has also completed Selassie. I think Demolitions have an unfair bad rap, and since the rebalance can be used nearly as effectively as any other tactic if you know what to hit. Heavy Calvary can also be used effectively with the right Museum buffs. That’s the thing...depending on a players Museum Artifacts, different troops and even tactics may work more effectively. Honestly, I think attacking with HTs is boring. More fun for me to lean on Bazookas and use a mixed troop bag. Having said all of the above, I am more than willing to learn and change.

Star Trek alliance is a fun group and we communicate, and are always willing to learn and change...though the ‘change’ part may take some time. Our alliance has improved greatly since I traveled around and brought back my experiences from other alliances. Come join us for a few Wars...we would love to learn from you. :)

Player name ‘Rob’

Edit: Just FYI, our War Days are every Wednesday and Saturday.

I have been thinking of doing this for a few weeks now, and this thread is the final push I needed. My situation is our alliance has 2 strong Digital Age players but then a big gap to our next level players. We are getting bad matches against alliances with 5 or 6 strong Space Age bases, and we don't have the fire power to clear their 5th and 6th ranked players. So I and the other DA think it is better if we go walkabout.

Lord Stark, StarTrekAlliance, Bootney, I think you will be seeing us soon! Our game names are Daniel and Wizidge. And you are all welcome to visit Bad Rabbits 50. My alt dan will welcome you.

Good advice. Personally, I am not bored because I am in global age, which means that I’m not affected by the game’s gimmicks

We're encountering similar issues, Tsamu. We go from 275 space, 265 cwa, to 210 ish atomic. We end up encountering alliances with 15-18 atomic plusses to our 5-6. Sometimes we can stretch enough to win but there's zero margin for error. Admittedly, a large part of the problem comes from having too many maxers incapable of punching at their own weight. Still frustrating to repeatedly struggle because of the middle. Nobody's fault but ours, and we're correcting it. But reaching a new equilibrium will take months.

We love hosting travellers! I consider us the Bed and Breakfast of Dominations. If we are set to invite only put Lexi in the message, We have back to back wars of 30 and we have alts in specifically so we can accommodate guests who arrive.

Our alliance is A Round Table - put the A in so it comes up in search.

shout out to @noangel - Stilettos is another great place for travellers.
