FAQ?

Is there an FAQ for beginners somewhere?

Some things I'd like to know...

1. Does your army defend your town? It doesn't appear to because when I attack someone the only army I see defending is from the garrisons. This seems a bit nonsensical having an army that is there but just watches the slaughter, but anything's possible :/

2. When your city is destroyed, do you start from scratch? All those upgrades are gone? Back to the Stone Age as well? Do you have to rebuild everything, then upgrade it all over again (such as buildings, walls, army units, etc) or do you just rebuild the upgraded buildings? And if so, does it take the same amount of time to rebuild as the initial build/upgrade? How does this work exactly? This would help determine what I want to protect most.

3. When your barracks gets destroyed, what happens to army that was stationed there? They just died without a fight? Or do they remain in your inventory (which also doesn't make much sense)?

4. Is there a level window limit on battle matching? I always seem to be assigned someone who is 20+ levels above me! It seems like it matches by medal count (or close to), but matching by that alone doesn't seem to make sense (and sure puts another person at a disadvantage, such as level 3 with 200 medals and level 20 with 200 medals).

5. When you choose a city to attack, you see $15000 gold, but when you destroy the markets and end the battle (or let your army die) and thus "lose" the battle, you get no resources. So, does this mean the gold is not stored in the market or do you only get the gold if you win or perhaps destroy the town center? I thought it would be possible to destroy markets to get gold and end the battle, but this doesn't seem to work as I get nothing for doing so :/

Perhaps we should start an FAQ here somewhere, unless I missed it somewhere.

Thanks,

Hey Busy,

DomiNations being pretty much a more elaborate & graphically advanced clone of the Clash of Clans-format, there are tons of similarities between the two.
Anyway, if you aren't familiar with either, here are some answers:

1. Your army is for offensive purposes only. Agreed, this may seem nonsensical compared to real life, but this game would be unplayable if this wasn't the case. You would hardly ever have an army left for your offense if it fell when defending your base. I believe the General is the exception to this rule, as he/she can be used for both offense and defense.

2. All battles are, as one could say, hypothetical. As such, your town never actually gets destroyed, as this too would make it an unplayable game. What you do stand to lose, are resources and/or medals. If the town center gets destroyed, this automatically counts as a victory for the attacking party.

3. Nothing happens to the army stationed at any barracks upon its destruction, as the army is not visible/present during attacks and is meant for offfensive purposes only.

4. The battle matching appears to be solely based on your medal count. There can indeed be level 3 and level 20 players, both with 200 medals. The level 20 ones may have lowered their medal count intentionally, in order to avoid getting matched up to tougher players. This is also common practice in CoC as well, and it basically enables you to find easier opponents (as opposed to only working your way up and ending up battling the top clans - exploits or no exploits.)

Some mechanics in this game would definitely make no sense if you're trying to apply real life logic to it, but, this is a game after all.. : )

Thanks neoncity, that explains a lot. I'm not familiar with CoC, I'm from the Warcraft III world, so when my base gets destroyed, it's gone, along with any army I had lol So I guess I'm not used to this format and how such things are applied. Again, you've been very helpful, thanks.

Hi. I haven't cleared the forests to the pathway to the right of the screen or to the river. What happens when I do this? I just want to make sure I'm battle ready before I open these things up. Or can I only be attacked when the alliance gate is repaired?

Also, I have fought some single player battles but destroyed everything. Should I have not destroyed their markets and idols in order to loot them?

Hi sjb, welcome. Here are some answers for ya:

I haven't cleared the forests to the pathway to the right of the screen or to the river. What happens when I do this? I just want to make sure I'm battle ready before I open these things up. Or can I only be attacked when the alliance gate is repaired?

You can get attacked at all times (repaired alliance gate or not), whenever

1. you are offline, or
2. you don't have an active Peace Treaty.

As for this pathway, it doesn't seem to be doing much.
It currently has no known/reported impact on your game whatsoever.

I have fought some single player battles but destroyed everything. Should I have not destroyed their markets and idols in order to loot them?

You certainly should have. The higher the destruction percentage, the more you end up looting.
Hope this helps!

When I go into alliance menu and I press on somebody's name the only option I have is "visit". Maybe it is stuff only for the leaders?

Yep, only the leader sees everything, and the Council can kick other people also.
