I'm currently Classical age with almost a maxed out base but the problem is farming is really hard on this. I'm playing as British but I dont notice any loot bonus and some people has like 500g. It's quite rare to find a guy that has gold above 50k which makes it really hard to get that 500k I need to upgrade town hall. Problem is, in this game people attack as soon as I close the game and If I had 120k, it would drop below 100k. This will be really hard unless you stay online all day long but not all of us have that kind of time.

That´s how the game works. Battles, battles, battles! In other games you can build up your base in parts, with pure farming. That´s pretty boring. It´s all about a good combination of battles, defense and farming. You´ll have the same problems in medieval age, because you need then 1.3 million gold for upgrade your town hall, but you don´t find always bases with a 100k gold.
Do you have connected your roads with your town hall and many buildings? Extra gold!
Do you collect gold often from your roads and caravans? Attackers can steal 50% of them! Mills and market only 25%.
And try to protect your markets with catapults, towers and walls. Maybe not all the game long, but for the time you need 500k for an upgrade.

1 - Lower your medal count. The medals are the meansure that dictates who can attack you. Normaly, the top-top assaulters have a higher medal count. Fewer medals = fewer chances of getting your base raped by some top-research medieval fellow.

2 - Use a farming layout. Resource storage buildings burrowed deep within a good layer of towers and walls, and everything else exposed, Town Hall included. If done right, your assailants will generally be medal-hunters who will try to just trash your City Center with a small force, earn some cheap medals, and leave your gold-food supply alone, protected by some shield-hours. It will cost you some medal count, but if you want something, you need to give something in return. Resources or medals, you can't have both easily.

Are you sure about the first one? I need to know so I could collect a decent amount of goods without getting my town completely destroyed

It's a tactic every farmer do. Keeping the medal count under the radar generally gives you access to cities of people who gave up the game and do not collect anything from farms, roads and caravans and/or some unlucky low levelers who are saving for their next upgrade. The only backfire of this stratagem is that some strong-tech-but-low-medal can run into your base and do the same thing with you. Just keep looting the ghost/bad designed towns. Low-level and ballista-less towns don't stand a chance against a big charge of 6-9 heavy cav with the support of some arches and meelers.

Ah, and do not be afraid to lose your entire army in a unwinnable battle if the loot would compensate the loss. If you make them bleed a lot more than your men, the tactical defeat is worth it.

Vying for higher leagues is for maxed-out players who don't care anymore about losing their resources.

Err... in classical - why don't you just use a 5d peace treaty? If your caravans are upgraded and you collect a couple of times a day - you should generate enough to upgrade right?

I agreed with this man! Lower medal count can have a better fight with more gold and food.
