Here's my current layout minus a few minor changes... It's performing decent but not good enough, if someone has a lot of archers my walls are useless... It seems like attacking troops are always stronger than troops when I attack (mine are fully upgraded), any tips would be great I'm more concerned about protecting resources than anything but if there's a way to protect my town center it as well it would be great.

Layout looks good, Mountainking!
Just a few suggestions, which might help:
  1. Among the three catapults, it might help to swap the middle one with the garrison in the same section. This change will bring the catapult next to the ballista tower in the adjacent section. The garrison would also go into the area of effect of the Acropolis (just in case it's not already in the area of effect).
  2. In the section towards the embassy, it might help to swap the tower and the ballista tower within the same section. This change will bring a ballista tower right next to the catapult near Acropolis.
  3. In the section towards the dock, it might help to swap the mill and the tower. This change will bring a tower next to the catapult that you'll be bringing towards the dock side, through change 1.
Overall, it's a nice design. Cheers and happy gaming! :)

flash. Thanks for the feedback.
1. You are right. That garrison is not in the area of effect of the acropolis. The idea of this garrison was to slow attackers from the garrison spawn from the right hand side to allow the catapult to get more shots as my left hand side has more stables/defensive buildings and I assume the right side would get more enemy landings. I will try to bump up the walls and then move the catapult to where you said.

2. Done. But what is the benefit of ballista tower near catapult and acropolis?

3. Done.

Thanks for your precious inputs mate!

Happy to help!
Ballista towers near catapult in PvP battles help in killing heavy cavalry, who would advance ahead of the shooters and try to take down the catapults. The catapult shots don't cause much damage to heavy cavalry, but, the ballista tower would kill/weaken them (unless the attacker decides to use a sabotage tactic on both, which is costly and the tactic would take a long time to re-train).

So I had this base, to protect my resources (see first image). But I kept getting my base wiped and resources stolen. I tried to come up with something better, but the only really different idea I had was this (see second image, the buildings under construction are a cannon tower and redoubt)

Is this any better? Any suggestions on how I can protect my resources from IA armies?

I would try and create more 'compartments' with your walls instead of the double wall. Learn from attacks and study where they attack and where they go wrong. Use your defense successes to learn and improve the layout based on it.

Any feedback is welcome, I'm looking into changing it this layout, is normal base operation, but I would like some feedback about whit ch changes can I do to better protect some resources, clearly my focus has been protecting that oil :), I'm currently building two air defenses that I would need to properly incoorporate into the layout.

At what point do you sacrifice road bonus for defense layout? I've been trying several different configurations, but I haven't found any tips or strategies yet for managing the road network and walls at the same time. I also started multiplayer battles and I've had a 50:50 record when it comes to attacking, and I'm 0/2 for defense. Screenshot_2017-01-07-14-20-32.jpg

You shouldn't worry too much about defense in the early ages. The goal should be to minimize resource losses in raids by building a base that protects your resources (i.e. mills and markets) so that you can advance quickly and save for more expensive upgrades. That is why you will see many players with exposed City Center and walled off resource buildings in different compartments. But to answer your question, roads are a nice boost to City Center health, but should not compromise any defense. I start out by building a base, then make adjustments to roads to maximize the connections (where appropriate), after.

I would put your TC way farther away from your resources so it takes more time for him to attack it. Also if you want your TC close keep it in within the firing range of your catapult

Your base set up is good. However, your defenses are much too low for your age. You are in the industrial age with classical to gunpowder defenses. No matter how well you arrange your walls and defenses you will still be a prime target for more fully upgraded industrial, global, and even enlightenment ages. Work hard on maxing all upgrades before moving up to the next age.

My alliance told me to try and connect most things to the TC with roads. Currently stands at 400. But i wonder how important it really is.

You can move to Industrial Age if all of your offensive capabilities have been upgraded.
Among the defenses, max out the stables and cannon towers in Enlightenment Age.
Upon reaching Industrial Age, upgrade your Armory, barracks, followed by troop upgrades for your most used troops.
Upgrade your oil refinery, and get the first level air strip early, because it'll improve your offensive capability.
Among the troops, heavy cavalry gets the best jump through the upgrade to tank.
Among defenses, prioritize cannon towers and stables. They get upgraded to anti-tank guns and tank depots respectively, and give a good boost to your defense.
Farms and caravans can wait. General upgrades can wait too.
We can help you better with base design feedback, if you can try and post a single screenshot of the base, covering the most important core of the base, even if it doesn't cover the entire base. Placement of towers is key to defending against attacks by players in Industrial and Global Age, so, towers with their ranges overlapping with each other, or, one starting where another tower's range ends is vital.
Cheers and happy gaming! :)

I've just put my castle inside walls with an exit gate. Previously it was outside in the open. Thanks.Plus stables are inside and garrisons outside walls.
