As we speak, the leading player, in the current event, has 1,000,000 points. He or she will get Capt. McConnell’s Hero Ensemble, an excellent artefact.

The artefact will also be acquired by #100 who now has 50,000 points.

#1 has spent 1,000,000/50=20,000 hours of speed ups.

#100 has spent 1,000 hours of speed ups.

Looking at the prices of speed ups, we can assume £0.07/hour.

We can also assume that by the end of the event (we are now 1.5 days in, out of 5) #1 will have spend 60,000 hours, whereas #100 will have spend 3,000 hours.

So, to get Capt. McConnell you need to spend anywhere between £210 and £4,200.

Now, add the blueprints to that...

Nobody is correct. There are more factors than just buying your way up. Most likely that did have some part, but if you buy the event pass, there are other ways to earn points. Getting that many points is not inconceivable spending enough time on the game.

What Nobody said is right on. Not saying $$$ didn’t have some influence, but cannot take away what buying the event pass can do. If you spend enough time on the game, it is possible. But again... have to spend money just to buy the pass. They are not going to give you the artifact for free.

When you see how much it cost to get to vip level 15 (see other trend) it wouldnt surprise me at all that somebody can pay 1000$ to win an event...

You all seems to not take into consideration that:
a) you get speed ups regularly (for free!) from war chests, event supply drops, video rewards, event progression rewards, etc
b) technically the speed ups are accelerating your upgrades and not “buying” the event reward (aka legendary)

That's all well and good but we could've seen this for ourselves.
What, exactly, is your point???

Anyone that thinks the extra points awarded for battle conditions has any impact on the leaderboard has never tried to compete in a speedup event. Only 2 ways to win these cheating or spending money, grinding will just leave you depressed and empty

Hey.... I did reach the top 100 in a speed up event some month ago. It is possible to get in there without spending any money on speed ups but only the pass.
you need to do battles 5-6h per day nonstop. Than use your saved speed ups afterwards to adjust your leaderboard standing. You invest time, not money. 10 days event with 5h of doing battles equals 50h of playing nonstop. That’s how you need to do this event without buying speed ups separately.
