The update notes mention

Troops take more efficient routes when moving.

However what I've experienced so far is the opposite of "efficient".

Here are a couple of videos I've uploaded to show what I mean by that.

Video 1

When I rallied my cavalries to the ballista tower, instead of attacking directly from the side closest to their current location, they took a huge detour around the buildings and attacked the gate at the top.

Video 2

Instead of moving in a straight line towards the tower, the cavalries took a detour around the house and the piles of gold on the road.

Video 3

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CVKrTWqKYA

Instead of heading straight to the tower (which is not obstructed by any wall), the cavalries took a bizarre path and destroyed 2 walls before getting to the tower.

Video 4

Instead of taking the shorter path between the mill/market and the town center, the cavalries took a detour around the mill and market.

If you look at this other video, cavalries can still move between buildings. So it's definitely not the case that it's impossible for them to take the shorter path I described above.

Video 5

Aside from ignoring the wall opening, the cavalries take a longer path around the houses instead of the shorter path between the houses.

Video 6

After destroying the garrison on the right, cavalries attack a wall and a gate even though the next garrison is in the same walled compartment.

Video 7

Why don't the cavalry defenders move along the edge of forest to reach the attackers? It would have been quicker than traveling through the center of the base like what the defenders did.

Video 8

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf88nAju36M

Despite being deployed close to the ballista tower, cavalries target the tower instead. When rallied to the ballista tower, cavalries take a longer path around the barracks instead of moving in between the barracks.

Video 9

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_kA5NE75nY

When the cavalries are heading towards the tower, instead of moving between the houses they moved around the top house. But this is not because they are unable to move between buildings because you can see later on cavalries are moving between the houses just fine.

It just seems like for some reason cavalries prefer taking the longer path.

Video 10

You can see here that both elephant and cavalries moving towards the same garrison, with the elephant taking the shorter (and more logical) path. As a result, elephant arrives there a whopping 9 seconds earlier than the cavalries. By the time the cavalries reach the garrison, it has been destroyed by the elephant.

Video 11

Instead of doing the logical thing and taking the route between the mercenary camp and barracks, the cavalries take a longer alternative route which requires them to break down an additional wall (thank god it was a level-1 wall).

p/s: You also get to see a cavalry and a heavy infantry killing a defender with ranged attack.

Video 12

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymE5OsyYT2c

After destroying the last garrison on screen, instead of going back through the opening to get to the ballista tower, the units attack the wall directly in front of the ballista tower.

p/s: Notice also how the elephant on top moves when attacking the defenders.

Video 13

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sb3yKsXD48g

Instead of moving through the opening at the top, the rallied troops try to open a new path by attacking a wall. And after destroying the wall, some of the troops attack another wall next to the new opening instead of moving through it.

Video 14

All the cavalries attack the castle even though the bottom stable is probably closer - that stable is definitely closer to the second group of cavalries. This had the unfortunate consequence of causing the cavalries to split into 2 groups moving in opposite directions.

I don't have the videos to back it up (yet), but I concur. This "pathfinding" AI has gotten worse. Now, troops that were headed for a building through a wall opening, will change direction and head into a wall if that building is destroyed and there is a building next to it. They should head through the opening 1st, then change direction.
