In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, we are celebrating Rachael Pratt, who enlisted in the Australian Army Nursing Service. Pratt was attached to the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station at Bailleul, France during an air raid on July 4th, 1917. She was severely wounded when shrapnel from a bomb tore into her back and shoulder, puncturing her lung. Despite her injuries, Pratt continued to help patients until she eventually collapsed and was evacuated to Britain for treatment. She was awarded the Military Medal 'for conspicuous gallantry displayed in the performance of her duties.'
