Felt inspired to do this after seeing that post about walls being too expensive so I wanted to get down and dirty with the Algebra to figure out what we are really dealing with here.

Math is based on the max walls one can achieve in the game which is 155 along with 12 additional gates. I went ahead and just added all the gates into 1 line to make it easier on everyone. 10% savings is based on 155 walls and 12 gates level 1-15 and is only an approximation as you get the university wall discount research at gunpowder age therefore for the sake of a clean post, I felt it was not necessary to exclude the 10% savings out of 90 walls and 6 gates levels 1-8. If you must know, the difference is very minimal; only about 3 mil. Also, I am aware that you can pay for walls with food at level 9 and up but wanted to leave that out to keep it simple and to focus on the numbers at the end only. I also included how much the values have increased after each level.

LV 1 Walls:
31,000 gold

LV 2 Walls:
155,000 gold (5x more than previous level or a 400% increase)

LV 3 Walls:
775,000 gold (5x more than previous level or a 400% increase)

10% savings = ~581,764,540 million gold

An interesting thing to note, if you are British you only have to raid ~4.55 billion true gold (BEFORE the 15% loot bonus and AFTER the 10% savings) which in total saves ~1.26 billion gold.

You dont need to raid all that in gold though, essentially you spend half the total above in gold since you can use food. So you are getting the walls twice as fast.

I am about the same in food plundered, almost a billion but have not hit it. In total then it would be about 1.8 billion collected resources.

Im sitting on about 450M looted for each resource, so close to the overall 1 billion.

The food cost and university research helps a lot but i cannot argue it is still expensive.

I think the biggest issue isnt the cost perse but actually the benefit per cost is way out of wack. Wall sappers do way too much damage and basically just nullify walls if they are being used correctly.

So wall sappers need to be looked at and wall health as well.

Also i think something that could make up for the cost is if Walls Used Zero Workers To Upgrade. IF they dont want to go that route maybe something like Wall Engineer research that gives you 1 worker that can only work on walls. Essentially the same as no worker cost but you have to "earn" it instead.

Wall breakers deal a lot of damage to walls, but this is fairly designed when considering their is uni tech to buff wall hp by 30%, a wall blessing (which is pretty much as rare a blue moon, though), and the Indians coalition in wars. I don't think even an a lone atomic wall breaker can break an atomic wall when it is backed by all that hp+ from coalitions and or uni research. They do, however, cut it real close. I believe the sweet spot for wall breakers is around 6 atm, if taking a look at the Korea Army comps that have raided me in the past involve + checking out their bases to see what troops they're using every now and then.

Gates used to cost less than walls about 2 years ago. Early upgraders got a discount.
