Tough to say, really. Knock on wood, I've never personally experienced the lag, though I've seen it during ally and opponent replays in wars and I still get my videos. My enthusiasm for the games waxes and wanes though. I'm in one of my lower enthusiasm periods after two solid months of grinding during the Summer of Ages.
What keeps me going are my alliance mates and the fact the fact I'm at a point that I can play a lot or very little and it makes little difference. I know that seems weird to say, but the fact that I can only play when I feel like it and not feel like I'm missing out or letting my teammates down is actually one of this game's main draws. I played Marvel Strike Force for a few months and without a bare minimum of 1-2 hours daily not only did you not advance but you actually went backwards and pulled your alliance down with you. A lot of these alliance based games tend to forget that they're games, not an unpaid job. To be fair, I've reached this state of equilibrium after four years, six accounts, and the recruiting and dismissal of hundreds of players to get my accounts and alliance where I want it to be.
I also hang out in gold league and my alliance has 17,000 glory. So while cheating is persistent and rampant perhaps I don't play at a consistently high enough level to be affected by it as you are. So that's my suggestion I guess. Take a little time off, maybe drop into a less competitive medal league for a bit. If you lead your alliance, maybe groom a few people to run things while you take a little time off to remind yourself of what you've enjoyed and how far you've come. It sounds counterintuitive but sometimes doing something less makes you remember what you enjoyed about doing it in the first place.
