I’m part of Star Trek alliance, and we are a very active and fun group of players. No whales on our team, but many players, including myself, sometimes spend our monthly ’entertainment’ budget on Dominations. I’m becoming concerned as our alliance just lost a long-time player who felt the game had become too slow to advance meaningfully without spending big dollars.

So how can we solve this issue in a way that benefits both the game developers and the players?

I suggest Expansion Packs that could be purchased for a one-time minimal fee similar to purchasing the Estate. The nice thing about Expansion Packs is that the mechanics of the game could remain the same, so it could potentially provide a new revenue path for this game to expand, and grow players. New art, buildings, troops, etc. would need to be developed, but this could be slowly phased in with various ‘age’ advancements within the Expansion Packs. For example, look at the longevity of World of Warcraft, due in large part, in my opinion, to their Expansion Packs which keeps the game fresh.

Dominations needs more than a single linear path in game play…it’s time to add some parallel development opportunities.

Expansion Pack #1 - Create a Space Port on that little island that could be used to launch a ship and colonize a planet. Perhaps the Space Port would be available in the Space Age. There is a rich history of planetary sciences, astronomy, rocketry, etc., that could be used as an educational bases, similar to how Dominations provides educational material on historical events and leaders. I would think the the ‘Space Port’ Expansion Pack would be a draw for players from the EU, United States, China, and India, all of whom have active space programs.

Expansion Pack #2 - Create a Cave Portal, that could transport the player to a Fantasy style world were he could create a new village. Perhaps this Expansion Pack would be available at the Medieval Age. I know many gamers who are very much into Fantasy so the potential for new players would be large. Again, the mechanics could remain the same, but new art and fantastical creatures/troops would need to be created. Here also, there is a trove of real world historical material available, such as Norse, Greek, Roman, Celtic, and Asian mythology, all of which could be used for education and special events.

Expansion Pack #3 - Make the Turtle Ship a permanent addition that you could use in WW and MP on Offense and Defense, similar to the way Generals are utilized. The ship itself could be upgraded with various troops, compartments, cannons, navigation, sails, etc. You could even add a couple of slots in the Museum for Nautical improvements.

Dominations could put some investment behind advertising these new Expansion Packs to pull in new players who have various interests. They could also offer an ‘estate’ and additional workers for each Expansion Pack, similar to what is offered in Dominations. New Museum slots, Troop Cards, will potentially increase revenue. New paths of revenue will keep this game moving forward. Of course, the Expansion Packs will need to be reasonably priced to draw in maximum players. The goal is to expand the player base, increasing the fun of the game, while also increasing revenue, right?

For all the complainers: Dominations is a great game, fair, and you can compete without breaking the bank. If you don’t like the idea, then your choice to purchase, or not purchase the Expansion Packs.

Instead of complaining, we need to think of ways to expand the game, make it more fun, and draw new players. I think Expansion Packs are a viable solution. A win-win for both Players and Developers.

I find your suggestion reasonable but not doable. Yes I agree that an expansion pack is a win win situation but not the ones you propose. I feel like they are out of touch with the game theme except #3.
I would suggest something more like different graphics for some buildings according to the race each chooses and not only for the houses and town centers and a few others. Make mortars and antitanks also different.
In addition, we can have double vault storage, +50% marketplace storage, both for a reasonable fee (not like 10-15$$)
An expansion pack could add ships and sea battle mechanics on the main map and alter the strategies we use drastically. First bombard a city from afar, then deploy troops.

What would be really interesting is if you could play your village simultaneously at each age that you have passed through - like chapters in a history book. Each improvement in an age is added to all your following ages’ villages as well. Then you could restrict Wars to villages of a single age and get fair matchups whose outcomes are based solely on skill.

You are slowly turning into a spammer. What are you going to propose next week? StarTrek fragments? Howitzers with startrek logo? Spacebunnies to hunt down with a lasergun?

StarTrekAlliance A spammer... you're not, but all these posts about futuristic version of Dominations is a bit annoying.

Why don't you just install one of those generic fantasy/futuristic games? There are plenty of those out there.

Why this game adopted a pay to win path, rather than a pay to customize path is so far beyond me. They could’ve done so much more with visual customization. Think about all the troop tactics they spit out, trying to shove down our throat for a one time use. Now imagine that with some sort of subscription, you have the ability to train these troops regularly, and use them as if they were made in a factory or barracks. There’s so much wasted potential hear it it’s truly upsetting.

Interesting concept but it would make the game consume gigantic storage space.
Thus, not user friendly for certain devices, then become unplayable.
It already takes over 1GB in Android, not including its cache.
There will be Space age soon, probably the design would match your vision 😊

@Lord Stark - Thank you Lord Stark for a reasonable, thoughtful, and polite response. I think the Space Port is very much in line for this game. Elon Musk and Space X are seriously planning a Mars mission, with humans, with the goal toward long term colonization. China just recently announced plans to potentially build a small base on the moon. This is all happening currently, so I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of Dominations to have a Space Port with the goal of colonization mars. I’m a big fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs and John Carter of Mars, so of course, I’d love to see some futuristic aspects added to Dominations. Yes, I agree, the Cave Portal for Fantasy may be beyond the theme of Dominations, but it would increase the player base, and be an optional Expansion Pack to purchase. I guess my thought is they need to add something that allows for parallel lines of development, the current system is very linear with a single track of development. I enjoy Dominations and would like to see them expand the game. More players, more fun, more options, more avenues for development.

As I have pointed out before, if you want a strategy, base builder, space game go play Starcraft II..... or Maybe this one since you like Star Trek so much
https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online

If the goal is bringing in more players there are many better options. Friends I have tried bringing into the game got bored and quit because they kept getting attacked at lower ages and advancement took month and months.... Which I happen to enjoy the hundreds of different upgrades available. New players could be brought in if they were given enough crowns in a $80-100 package to advance to a maxed Global age base. World of Warcraft does this for new players by giving them a lv 110 character plus an up to date set of gear for $80. The $50 estate cost for 3 citizens is insanity....and $20 for a few thousand crowns is barely enough to upgrade 1-2 buildings @ 14 days per upgrade.

Essentially I agree that they should make advancing take less time, 14 days per building level is dumb.

As far as expansions.... They have plenty of development time invested into Space Age and there are still hundreds of building upgrades, university research, and museum artifacts I have yet to complete in Cold War Age.
Expansion packs of DLC could be different WWI, WW2, Vietnam and other war campaigns... People would pay $$$ for that especially if you could collect a museum artifact at the end.

I'm lv 226 AA and see still years of time that can still be spent on the game but I do feel very slowed down by the boring 14 day upgrades.
I have played this game since June 2015 and it has been a glorious 3-1/2 years but I'm not even CWA yet lmao....
Perhaps they could scale down the number of days to upgrade as more Ages become available. But honestly this game is coming to it's ending point. This brings me to my next point.

Dominations II
This would be a better path after Space Age...
Give us more nations, more unit controls, bigger bases ( with similar or less memory usage), better AI, improved graphics, more campaign modes, and more chat options
Also, I'd like to see cool new terrains like hills, valleys, and things that could hinder troop movement.

You have a valid point here.
But.
We don't have enough Cold War Age players let alone Space Age which is not even out, and dare I say Modern Age? Upgrades gonna take weeks to complete.
We don't know what upgrades in "Modern Age" gonna be like. 18 months at least before anything "cosmic" comes out on this game.
They did mention on Twitch they gonna slow done with Ages. So we talking years here. So only then I suppose we can talk about establishing some type of cosmic "adventures"

You do realise the Space Age is generally considered to have begun with the Sputnik in 1957?

Your ideas will have slight validity when we reach the age starting circa year 3000...
