Advice needed - which classical wonder

I've google'd this question of which Classical wonder to pick, and found a lot of helpful information, but still struggle a little with my choice. This is because some of the posts are "old" and I don't know how relevant they are anymore with all the patches since then. And, they're often written from different stages of the game -- using a simple example, the guy who finished upgrading everything says that Notre Dame is useless. I myself am in Medieval age right now, and probably 1-1.5 weeks away from upgrading to Gunpowder (separate topic, thinking of upgrading early just to make use of the instant upgrade.. causing waiting 5 days isn't my thing).

Forbidden City - This is the one I initially heard as, "You must have if you do WW." Yet, while looking up WW strategies, I hear a lot of comments that FC is a joke... that most people either defend TC and FC becomes easy to take down, or they split defense up and so both fall easily. But then I also read posts from people who say when they see a FC, they get ready for the 4-star victory. Conflicting posts! So I'm really not sure how helpful FC is. My personal thought at my stage is... it's not very helpful. Right now in WW, Enlightenment+ people just steam roll me, and I doubt a FC will change that. So maybe I skip it for now, but revisit it in a later age?? And yes, I do WW every chance I get -- it's fun!!!

Colosseum - This is the "go to" one I heard for all around. Helps a little in WW, but also in multi defense. It sounds pretty simple to understand why it's helpful... you get more defenders! But, how helpful are the defenders? When I was in iron/medieval, I always avoided opponents with Colosseum. Now that I'm in Medieval, I don't find those defenders as painful? Maybe it's because those players haven't kept their garrison up to date.. I don't know. So this is one I heard is good, but I don't understand how good. And yes, I have the Acropolis.

Notre Dame - Another mixed one I hear. Half the people say it'll save so much resources -- especially oil -- while the other half either say (1) I'm max'd out already so useless or (2) just raid more buddy. So initially I ignored this one because I love multi combat and fighting. But real life exists too, and while I love fighting/raiding, I can't do it all the time. So will I reach a point where, unless I have Notre Dame, I find myself sitting around? Just how demanding does the resource costs get, where Notre Dame maybe beneficial? Up to this point I haven't had any reosurce problems and thus ignored this. But upon further research, looks like many people advocate this more during Enlightenment+, when oil comes into play as well.

So.. having said all of that, I can't decide! It sounds like this may be a wonder best suited to save some crowns for to use one now, and use one later? Maybe Colosseum or Notre Dame, then switch to FC in a later age? I've played enough free offer games that I unlocked both 2nd slot of blacksmith and library... so think my next crowns can be saved for a switch :D

Forbidden city is the best in my opinion if it’s placed right.
Colosseum is ok but the defenders are kinda weak and the strength of the gladiator I barely use so it’s pretty useless.

Notre Dame
36% off planes with library & university research
Don't have to prioritize upgrading all mills to max level in order to upgrade troops in later ages
Not bad for expensive oil researches in the library

To begin with, none of the wonders are real game changers or deal-breakers.

If your priority is wars, it comes down to a choice between Colosseum and Forbidden City.

Colosseum's primary benefit is the Strength of the Gladiator which you can use during your attacks in wars, and it is quite useful. The defensive aspect is the secondary benefit, but, might be alright if used in conjunction with the Acropolis.
Forbidden City's role is defensive in nature in wars, but, can be negated with the 50% destruction approach to gaining the Quick Victory star.
FC might challenge some of the inexperienced opponents in wars, but, the good ones typically negate its effects through the 50% destruction to QV approach.

If your priority is to have it a little easy on your game-play, the Notre Dame is a good choice. While the cost discounts are alright, the real difference it makes is when you reach a new age. It helps you minimize the need to upgrade your mills before you can initiate some of the armoury upgrades. That means, you have it a little easy to unlock your new age troops a little easier and a little earlier than otherwise. The oil discounts on general upgrades, plane upgrades, factory troop upgrades, and the library researches, viewed cumulatively are nothing to sneeze at either, especially in later ages.

So, in summary:
If your priority is wars, choose between the Colosseum and the Forbidden City. Between the two, if your priority is offense, go with the Colosseum, else go with the Forbidden City.
If your priority is to have a slightly easier game-play experience, go with the Notre Dame.

Hope this helps.

Cheers and happy gaming! :)

I'm pretty happy with Notre Dame. Gold isn't much (imagine 35,000 at AA), but -10% (dynamically) of each library technology and unit upgrade is something of quite value. Especially oil talking.

I more less mean useless to me cause most of the time I forget it’s there and when I do remember I don’t need it.

I see where you're coming from, but they can be the difference between losing a significant portion of your army to two generals or not breaking a wall in time before whatever's behind that wall does a lot of damage to your army. Especially in war (v. SH)
