This weekend is our third Black History Matters Event focusing on redlining.
Redlining refers to the discriminatory practice of denying loans, restricting insurance services, offering unfair or abusive loan terms, or outright deceiving applicants based on the color of their skin. Redlining originates from the United States federal government’s New Deal of the 1930s. The government created maps of every metropolitan area of the country to indicate where it was perceived to be safest to insure mortgages. However, instead of mapping those areas by risk, they were mapped by race. Any area where African-Americans lived or lived nearby were marked red to indicate those neighborhoods were too risky to insure mortgages. Redlining prevented African-Americans from buying homes and building equity in the same way as white families. The Fair Housing Act in 1968 was a step towards opening up communities to African-American families. However, by 1968 many homes in white communities were no longer affordable to the African-American families that could have afforded them when white families were buying into those suburbs. The wealth disparity can still be seen today where African-American wealth is only equal to roughly 10% of white wealth. Redlining and similar practices continue to this day in the United States, resulting in large financial settlements from multiple major US banks as recently as 2015.
During the event, there will be 25% off Factory, Oil Refinery, Oil Well, and Claymore Trap building upgrades. There will be 33% off Machine Gun, Commando, and Assault Vehicle troop upgrades, and the Betrayal War Tactic.

(Event lasts from 14:00 UTC 7/17 until 14:00 UTC 7/20.)
