Can anyone actually explain how XP affects gameplay?

I have VERY High Experience Point level for my Age but not entirely sure how the experience point levels actually affect gameplay. Do your troops get stronger, or faster, or the AI smarter with increased Experience Levels? Does anyone actually know rather than just off the cuff assuming a yes or no? I basically have not found anything online or in the forum that is a definitive answer on what you get with the higher levels or how it does or doesn't affect the gameplay. Maybe the Devs could give a quick spotlight and or explanation on the advantages gained by a rise in Experience Points. The new AXP advantages are detailed explicitly in the game and it is clear what and why you want more AXP. But XP levels..... not so much. Anyway, if you don't actually know please do not reply, I think everyone understands there is an implied advantage to the higher level for being attacked etc. but I again, have not found anything that actually details what higher XP Levels do for your base, troops, AI, or gameplay.

Maybe if you are at a certain Age and your Experience level is high enough for advancement for next two Ages, you get to upgrade a building etc to one level beyond that of your current age. That would be a huge incentive to upgrade your base more before upgrading the TC to next age. It would also give a "Perk" to the Experience XP Level like we now have with the AXP. Just a suggestion but still looking for definitive answers. If you like this suggestion or one similar please hit the like button to get Devs attention.

Thanks!

Regular XP gives you no gameplay advantage. The only thing it is linked to at all is the ability to upgrade to the next age (there is a minimum XP level required). XP in no way affects troops or anything else.
