It would be cool if when you get to the gunpowder age you get to start a colony. You would get to pick between historical parts of the world that were colonized the Americas, most of Africa, Australia. Depending on were you put your colony depends what nations you get to choose for them.

They would be on the ocean so this is were they could add ship combat.

Colonies can only attack other colonies but your homeland will ship troops to help and your colony will come to your help in defense as well.

If your colony grows upset with your leadership it will cause a stability drop in your country (causing a random decrease) food shortage, troop shortage etc

Your colony will eventually grow into a country of your choosing based on what location of the continent. Southern united states could have (republic of Texas, the confederacy or even the united states) same with other areas of the world.

No matter what happens the country is still yours but if you mistreat them they won't help you until there is change.

Unique unit based on location, perks on the country.

Also my idea for the colonies would be that you have a more limited control. Since colonies historically had a local government listening to the homeland. When you went to attack you would be planning the attack not actually doing it. Like troops deployment and important tactics. Then the ai would actually do the attack. The colony would grow with your guidance but you would not be in complete control.

Attacks would have a travel time.

The colonies war advisor would give you 3 other colonies to choose to attack. Easy (low reward) medium (medium reward) high (high award)

They would be able to make laws but you would have the power to veto (could cause stability drop)

Laws would have negative effects or positive ones on the colony, homeland or both.

Since there is a waiting on the attack your colony could get attacked while your online.

If you caught there scout (small percentage on its own) guaranteed if you personally catch them. You would have a chance to better coordinate your defence for the upcoming attack based on the intel you gathered.

Intel may be partial or complete depending on level
