G'day DomiNators, In Iron Age (the Roman nationality) at the moment and my Soldier (legion) - bowman combination has been tearing noobs until recently when I encountered a catapult. The AOE effect completely threw me off and absolutely decimated my mighty Roman Legion. Any advice to a fellow player on how to deal with them pesky catapults? Thanks in advance! :)

they shoot at closest target. i try to make the closest target a cav unit. cav units have terrible attack. but have 3-4000 life. using 6 barrack slots. which means they have 3x roughly the life of an infantry melee unit. they are the tank unit meant to absorb the attention of everything on the battlefield....... they also head straight for defenses. which frequently means theyll activate defenses that would otherwise be inactive for a bit longer. but on plus side the cav tend to be closest target more often their weakness is anything that does big single damage (balista tower and traps). and they have like 1/6 or worse the attack of melee troops. so overall cav suck. but in very specific scenario they are helpful. so i use 2 cav as bait for catapults when possible....:unfortunately sometimes thats not possible

Hmmm what i do is a little different from dbukaski.. I would suggesting looking at the base carefully. There are three ways of dealing with catapults. First if the catapult is vulnerable in an open spot undefended by walls or by defenses. Drop your troops right next to it and destroy it before anything else.

Second way is if the catapult is being defended inside walls and defenses around it. One way to deal with this is to attack from the opposite side and get all the resources or defensive buildings you can.

Third way is to if the catapult is in same position as the second method. Just drop you troops near the catapult usually cavalry first but not right next to it. Then drop the rest of your legions and archers to take out the catapult. If necessary use the rally command.

thats a lot of words to say avoid it or if its undefended easy to reach kill it. i assumed the op thought of those. my point would boil down to use cavalry to draw aggro. also just to cover all possibilities. theres a tactic from war academy that freezes defense buildings. also rally to the catapult to take it out asap

Elephants. That's my suggestion. I just use legion, archers, elephants. They can get through walls, and kill cats pretty efficently, especially backed up by legion.
I also only ever use the healing War Tactic. So once the troops are going through the walls and smashing cats, I drop one in to counteract the splash effect with a health booster.
