Generals swapping horses for tanks: beneficial, harmful, or merely cosmetic?

I have finally hit the point where I don't have much left to do with my armory and oil besides upgrade generals, so I'm starting to wonder about what happens when generals go from level 19 to level 20 and swap their horses for tanks. This changes their graphic and the sound they play, but does anything happen mechanically (ha, see what I did there?) other that the expected small increase in HP and attack value? In particular: does their movement speed decrease? I mostly use my generals for cleanup, so if the "upgrade" to level 20 makes it harder for them to reach that last building I need to achieve 100% destruction in time, I'll leave at least a few of them at level 19 as long as I can.

Movement speed isn't one of the stats listed when you examine a general (and general races are hard to arrange), but my anecdotal sense is that MacArthur, who starts off in a tank, is slower than Napoleon. I could be wrong about this, though, and it would be nice to know for sure. My plan is to level one general at a time, so I'm trying to decide which one to focus on first.

from the table the range increase to 3 in level 21, like Arthur or range of other tanks. Dont know about the speed increase or decrease.

You mean that melee generals get a ranged attack at level 20? If so, levelling Nobunaga of Cleo to 20 makes more sense than starting with Napoleon.

No range 3 is like other tank or fusilier, not very special. Napoleon has range 5, same as artillery or British troops, but cannot shoot over wall.

The Elephant Archer is crazy, they can shoot more powerful than artillery, can shoot over over wall, and the most overpower, they can shoot at troops!

I think the Generals in tanks are slower than those on horses, but they get a range of 3. Which makes them very useful for all out attacks. Generals on horses die too quickly on all out attacks because they have to run off from the rest of the troops and have to go right up to defensive buildings. And poof dead they are. Generals on tanks survival rate is much better.
