In Age of Empires, Rise of Nations and a plethora of other RTSses, when not playing a campaign game, players are able to select their respective team colours, wich would be seen in their unit's uniforms and buildings. I think that a customization feature like this would be great and would enrich the game experience even more.
The game already shows that it can swap the colour pallete of the units ingame (or have their sprites in both colours? dunno!), showing blue and red versions of the units, representing the ones you command, and the enemy ones, respectivelly. I would love to play with red-clad soldiers, against whatever colour the enemy base would like to them, instead of the default "you-blue-they-red".
To that be possible in-game I humbly suggest:
- Selecting your faction colour on your City Center or Alliance Portal. Custom RGB would be nice, but a limited eight or so colours would suffice.
- To avoid confusion in battles of same-colored factions, there should be a discreet but bright halo under the feet of your units, and none on the enemy's.
- And in order to be inclusive to colour-blind players, there should be an option to always see your troops blue and enemies red.
Yeah, I know the game size would be some MB higher, but i think that customization should be worth it.
