Blitedog had this great idea about having a mode that is based on your defense. If entertaining enough, this could definitely add to reasons to build up your defense to kill time between upgrades.

I don't expect this to be a game mode for a multitude of reasons, but creativity must be expressed at birth of conception. In this case, via inspiration from Blitedog.

Game mode: Invasion

In this game mode, all your currently upgrading buildings are automatically finished. (For this game mode only)

Defense is key in this all out attack from a random nation. The attacks are AI controlled, and successful defenses are rewarded with food, gold, and oil. Higher rewards can be earned for better defense. If the enemy scores a single star, the reward will be greater than if they received four stars etc. Resources lost from these attacks are minor.

To play this game mode, players will select it from the battle menu. The game will then detect their current level. A randomized attack will be generated to challenge the base. These attacks can vary from small armies to massive armies. Army examples: Small, medium, large, massive. Different armies will attempt different tasks on your base.

Small - Small armies are a little uncommon. Small armies will either go right for town centers and forbidden cities or go for resources. They have smaller numbers, but attack in multiple waves. Reward for defending these attacks are small.

Large - Large armies are the most frequent. These are challenging attacks. They will try to wipe your base out with waves of forces, or a single army. Rewards for defending these attacks are moderate.

Massive - Massive armies are rare. They will be the most difficult to defend against. They will consist of high level troops, and bigger numbers. They will try to decimate your base. The rewards for defending these attacks are great.

Big Huge XeroMaxx, what does a defense look like, and what makes them special?

Well, a special touch to this game mode is the addition of defensive war tactics. During a battle, by destroying enemy troops, you gain Valor Points. Valor Points are needed to use tactics, so use them wisely! Destroying tougher units will yield more Valor Points to use at your discretion. These tactics will assist you against your enemies as they pour in from all corners of the map. Let's take a look at them.

Overhaul - Overhaul is a war tactic that lets players target buildings within a specified area, similar to the sabotage war tactic and heal war tactic. Buildings affected will be granted a 40% increase to their firing rate for 10 seconds! For example, redoubt damage ticks will occur faster. Use this war tactic against the bulk of enemy forces.

Barrage - Look familiar? Barrage is back to do some heavy damage to invading troops, but as a bonus, barrage will also slow enemies within the radius and reduce attack speed!

Repair - Repair is a powerful tactic that will allow you to instantly repair one building for 80% of their maximum health. (Cannot affect your town center) ;(

Rally! - That's right. It's here. Unlike in attacks, however, rally will give your defenders bonus movement speed and an extra 20% attack damage for 10 seconds. You cannot control their movement. ;(

So, let's go through an attack. I'm playing with a level 110 Japanese base in the Enlightenment age. I select battle, and I'm put into a loading screen. I am then loaded into the defense screen. I can see my base, and I see that I am being attacked by a large Roman army. I only have enough valor points for rally, but I'm only two points away from getting repair and barrage. Since the enemy is attacking from a strong part of my base, I will reserve my points until I can use the overhaul tactic. I'm not concerned with getting my defenders into battle unless the enemy attacked from a weak part of my base.

The enemy Roman forces breech my walls, but begin to take casualties. I unlock repair and barrage for use, but overhaul is still just beyond grasp. They enemy approaches my mortar, and I decide that additional shots from it would be beneficial. I throw down my barrage to slow their advance, and as a result, the Roman army takes a fair amount of damage. I now even have enough
valor points for the rally tactic. Now that all my defenders have spawned and are inbound to intercept the enemy. I throw down my rally and my defenders rush in to slow the advancing army. After some fierce fighting, the defenders hold off, and the Roman army only scores a single star.

I am brought to the awards screen and given some resources for my efforts. I return home, and see that my army is finished training, and go in for another attack. I fail my attack miserably. I use the retrain button, then go back to the battle screen, and click invasion again or the campaign mode to wipe out some barbarian tier bases.

Additions :

An addition to this game mode is the ability to create a separate base design for these attacks. This will allow players to test different bases against different attacks. To simulate a real attack, defense tactics don't have to be used.

Achievements - Rewards will be given for a certain amount of defensive victories and excellent defensive victories like not allowing a massive army to take a single star home.

Game mode: Zombies

In this game mode, players will be tasked with overcoming a number of waves of enemy zombie attacks! Zombies start at the lowest age and progressively get harder and grow in age. Defensive tactics are available as well, and used with valor points gained from killing zombie attackers.

Think this game mode is just a normal attack? Think again. Zombies come in packs of your standard soldier, but also are assisted by special zombies that are here coming to make your defense even harder.

The Grinder Zombie - This zombie ignores defenders and goes straight for defenses. Upon arrival, it will sabotage the building, and stick around until it's destroyed, or the defensive structure is destroyed. Quite the pest!

The Exploder Zombie - This zombie goes for walls, and blows them to pieces. If there is a hole in the wall, they will also go for defensive buildings. They are weak however, and upon death, will damage everything in a radius, even their own zombie friends!

The Alpha Zombie - This large zombie will lead groups of enemies into your base with increased movement speed and damage. Slow his progress at all costs!

The Boss Zombie: Nation Ender - The Nation Ender is a massive zombie, capable of damaging everything in his vicinity. He has a sizable amount of health and won't go down easy. Upon death, this massive zombie will spawn smaller soldiers.

Rewards for this game mode are increased by how many waves you can survive.

If anyone has anything else to add, feel free! And as always...

Stay dominating!

Wow I liked all your ideas about the invasion mode. I loved your concept valor points. I hope you can come back to this if you have any more ideas.👍

Agreed, this is a wonderful idea and a welcomed change. Would definitely be nice to have something to do while waiting for our attacking army to train.
