This is not working anymore.
You hit rally maybe 70% of your troops react to it. They come to a wall and all choose different sections of that wall. Eventually they make a hole in the wall and as soon as they do most of the troops abandon the rally objective and move on to something else.
I use rally to gather all my troops to a point so I can lay a tactic down, this doesn't work if many troops ignore the rally. I also use it to protect supply carts and balistas, but if a solid amount of troops just ignore it that is a handicap The troops not completing the rally when I place it on a defense is just aggravating. If I choose a target I should expect that target to be completed before troops start to spread again.
Not sure if a change was made but I remember rally working much more as expected a few updates ago, not it just seems unreliable
