Ruins - killer cheat or sweet secret?

Occasionally I'll come across someone's town and they've kept all the ruins, unexplored, they've uncovered clearing forests. I thought they just did it because they liked the look but recently I was attacking someone that had a line of about a half dozen ruins beside their farms. When I dropped my horse raiders... they were completely decimated. Just poof! Dead in about two seconds. Was that a cheat or should I regret exploring and selling off my ruins?

just some hack or something of the sort honestly, most kept ruins and all gold piles are hacked players imo

Some of the hackers just use ruins and mines as decoration, like some of them use the roads to write messages.

When you have infinite crowns, it's a waste of time to click on all the ruins. It's much quicker to just buy your upgrade resources.

true that! I see them all the time, piles of gold lined up along their bases with unexplored ruins.

I also thought that it's a sure sign of a cheating player when I see this and still think so when I see heaps of untapped gold, etc. But I have noticed a few villages that only have a few ruins, and thought that they are used as buildings.

That is, making an obstacle for enemy troops to walk around.

Personally, I need the gold.

I keep them around for the "free vault" until I have a builder open...

You can empty the ruins and keep them. I've got 8 of the big ones and 7 of the little ones that are empty, used to use them as blocking items, but I think in the last update they no longer block troops.

Also got 4 gold piles, when you get to the Empire leagues it's 100K gold/food per attack as a bonus. I'm in Empire League II, that's 125,00 gold and food each attack, the piles of gold etc... in comparison are peanuts and when they could be used to block things was worth keeping (not sure now).

I've never experienced ruins doing what you are describing. It was probably a one time fluke considering how buggy this game is.

What's the point of adding in ruins and statues when people can't even see them and only you? I kept them after exploring them to use as decorations and obstacles. Now, with the updates, enemies don't see them so they are useless. BHG is so incompetent; they disable certain features if they can't seem to find a solution.

Some of us like the look of our Civ ruins and all. Personally I've kept some of my ruins and I have them arranged in a nice neat pile along with my mounds of gold, chests and a few piles of ambrosia - sort of like a meditation garden area.
Am I a cheater? No. Do I like my base to look pretty? Yes.

But hey - that's just me. :)

I kept all my ruins and statues too. I like them as decorations. I've started keeping gold piles too.
