So I've been using:

2-3 Horseman
10 Archers
54-60 Warriors

It's been working great vs Gunpowder bases on the 400-600 medal range (im halfway through medieval).

Personal Best loots (using this composition).

Personal best:
255511 gold
259081 food

Can you post your general strategy?

I use 4 knights (cataphracts) and rely on them to take down a catapult. i use my vandals (phalanx-type soldiers) to destroy surrounding structures and rally to defenses, where appropriate. if i hit a base with a ballista, i'll usually drop vandals and rally them to destroy it. i use archers to deal with foot solider spawns and i have a couple calvary for loot clean up. i also bring a wall breaker just in case. so for my 65 man army, i have:

4 cataphracts
2 calvary raiders
15 archers
16 phalanx (vandals)
1 miner

i struggle with massing phalanx type units because they are so vulnerable to catapults. can you share your attack strategy with that army?

Thank you for sharing resnullius.

I choose a side where im going to attack from.

On that side I drop the 2-3 horses, I spread em out, for example 1 each corner and 1 in the middle of the side, then behind them i drop all my warriors in a big line (covering the whole side), and then behind a line with the archers, maybe dropping some more archers on the side the forest defenders are coming from, since those can be a pain starting the attack.

The idea of dropping everything in a line is that they stay in a line kind of formation throughout the whole fight, so they usually don't bunch up and take the cat. dmg as a bunch. Imagine a scanner line going slowly through the paper it's scanning, it's kind of what u see with this strategy most of the times.. the scanner line being your army, and the paper the poor guys base :p.

If I see that there is a vulnerable catapult outside the walls, or something like that, I save up some warriors and drop em directly to it once the rest of the army gets near it, but not before, this way they have more chance of surviving with their fellow warriors close to them. If you didn't save any soldiers, maybe drop the alliance troops.

I take elephants and/or horseman on my merc camp. I use this when I find tough bases or big whales, but it's not very often.

If you find your soldiers bunching up use a heal tactic, those can help a lot.

With this "line" strategy you don't use the rally very often, since disrupting the line formation can be more harmful than killing the specific building you targeted.
But it is useful sometimes for getting quicker to that last couple of defences, or if your soldiers drop formation, u can sometimes rally them back away from harms way, so together they start marching again towards the rest of the base, and this usually makes em gain the line formation again.

It will all be clearer once you start trying it out, I don't know if I'm explaining myself very well here ^^

Hope it helps.

Cheers!

thanks. that's interesting, but what do you do when you face bases with lots of compartments? it seems like your line of warriors would all funnel all your troops into the first wall break and make them more vulnerable to catapults

You may get 2-3 wall breaks at the same time or close enough together so that doesn't always happen, when it does you can use your heal while they are bunched up and they get into "formation" again, this is if you are getting hit by cat(s) AoE.

As long as you enter from more than one point you will get that "line" formation eventually once inside, make sure you distribute the line evenly, assuming the base is fairly even too.

I will try to send a replay of an attack if I can.

Remember, this is an attack for farming, 100%ing weak bases reducing your troop loss, not for attacking very strong and well protected bases with huge walls and stuff, might as well look for bases with no walls :p

About your strategy: how do you handle walls? wouldn't it hamper your troops to the point that they'll be slaughtered by defenses?

Neither opponent had a defendable base layout. What medal range is this?

I use a similar strategy with the Germans. I'm also rallying as soon as it's available so my line collapses fairly quickly.

I don´t attack bases with strong walls, lvl 5 at the most, and only if they have a great loot. It does take a little while to go past the wall, but since the army is spread out you don't take so much damage from the catapults aoe, and as long as they go in from more than 1 entry point they should go into a line fairly quick again once inside.

I don't look for defendable bases when I'm farming, in fact you should be doing quite the opposite ;)

The medal range is 400-600.
Whenever I go above 600 I drop to 400.

I try not to rally towards inside so much, unless it's critical, but I find that when I do this most of the times, a lot of troops just die on their way to the rally point, instead what I do is rally them back, so stray units with no chance against a tower by himself can join the rest of the troops and take it all together, always stronger that way.

Sometimes I do use the rally to go towards something, but it's usually not far inside and my troops are near it, it's just to give em a boost of speed to get to it and to get em to hit that before a couple of building in front of it for example.

I use a similar strategy, but if I'm doing a bit of raiding I don't bother waiting for the horses to build, just go for elephant or knight to target cats/defencive buildings. Might add a couple of horses now and see if it helps things along.

Think my highest was also around 250k, but I think my overall best percentage wise was 165k gold with 6 lost troops. Love those ones.
