It seems clear now that the nature of the game has become pay to win. If speed is the critical decider I or anyone can buy tactics from Marco Polo which can increase the speed of a five star attack. EVEN IF A PLAYER IS CERTAIN TO GET FIVE STARS, IT MAKES SENSE FOR THEM TO BUY TACTICS BECAUSE THAT WILL SPEED UP THE WIN.
I think this is such a radical change that it will impact how players feel about the game. For instance is it worthwhile continuing to play War if most players in an alliance don't pay and so they lose increasingly often?
If so then the War side of the game will increasingly shrink to being between alliances with players who are willing to pay to win while the rest will either abandon the game or simply avoid playing war leaving it to the price insensitive segment of the market. Whether the resulting shrinkage in the pool of players will then kill War or even the game is something I can only guess at but I do believe it's now become far more likely. Give it another week or two and it should be clear how players are responding. I for one am out of wars now.
