The title of this topic may seem pretentious but actually is correct. If you want to move through the ages as fast as possible and not spend money on crowns there is only one, very simple, way to do it:

Keep all your villagers occupied at all time.

There you are, that's it. Don't even bother to keep villagers idle to gather trade goods or upgrade walls. Just upgrade anything you can as soon as any of your villagers become idle.

I don't get the phrase: MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY
Does it mean advancing fast or what? Does it mean getting high on the medal list?
I don't think the scope of the game is to play as less as possible :))

Yes, the only thing that should be added is the need to build an extra house as soon as it becomes available. I play with two accounts, one 160xp in global one 90 xp going to enlightenment. Never really needed training blessing to keep everybody occupied.

Maximum efficiency means advancing your civ as fast as possible, I stopped caring for medals a long time ago. It doesn't mean you have to play less, though that is something that automatically will happen once you reach late industrial/global.

No need for that. You hunt and gather when workers finish something and get them back to work asap.

Any thought on armory upgrades? I have been playing this game from August 2015 and my generals are still at lv 11...

But hey lets take a look at those cheaters with max walls or lv 40 generals, they are still playing happily ever after even i keep reporting them! Nice work cs!

After getting an extra house the armory is the first building I upgrade. Next barracks, library and mills and markets when needed. First armory upgrades are my preferred troops.I only upgrade generals when I have spare food/oil. I hardly ever use mercaneries or generals; only during world war.

I'm not saying that you can't upgrade oil buildings without training blessings but doing it without one is definetly not the most efficient way to go about it. Also mercs make 5 starring in wars much easier. I think I'll keep my 2 idea villagers to collect cider

dont say someone a cheater just because he has level 40 general. You will be amazed at how much money some will pay!

True, that's why I do use mercs in war. However the bottleneck in this game is not resources or trading goods, but worker time/availability.
