Troops for defence in WW

What troops do you all usually donate to war bases for the different alliance troop size like 9, 12, 15, 18 etc?

Is mortar better than 6 black watch? Or machine gunner better than 4 black watch?

This is what we use
9= 1 mortar, 3 Shooters
12= 2 Mortars
15= 1 Artillery,Cannon, etc and 1 Mortar
18= 2 Artillery or 3 mortars depending on who donates
21= 1 Artillery and 2 Mortars
24= 2 Artillery, 1 Mortar
27 and 30= 3 Howitzers

Mortar is by far better than Black Watch in my opinion. I have done lots of experimenting with defensive donations and honestly the best donations for Town Center defense is Artillery and Mortars. Mortars will wipe out foot and shooters even quicker than Artillery due to their spread damage.

Just curious on how did u conduct the experiment?

Yes, I've witnessed the devastating power of 24 troop space with 4 mortars before. The mortars just wiped out all of my rifleman and I barely managed a single star.

Yet I've seen 1-2 black watch take out entire armies too as they are "invisible" to troop AI, but it's not reliable

I experimented by testing in my town a variation of troops. I spent a whole day mixing up my troops in my GBA and GPA accounts to see what worked best with damage. As my regular base in both my accounts are about the same as my war base I was able to get a good idea of where people attack from and the damage they do to the attacker. When we were still tweaking base donations we tried different mixes as well by going back and forth each war. With using what we do now for donations the opponent ends up getting less stars when TC produces the donated troops.

TBH I never thought about using mortars. Their short range is bad and howitzers have splash damage too

How about bazookas? Anyone tried them on Defence before? Seems like the first targets which go near your TC would be usually heavy Calvary or tanks. Arti is less useful with those meat shields around but deadly when they manage to bypass them and aim at the support troops behind.

Agree with Sletteer1987 on this. Quite close to what we're doing too:
9: 1 mortar, 3 shooters
12: 1 artillery, 2/3 shooters
15: 1 artillery, 1 mortar
18: 2 artillery
21: 2 artillery, 3 shooters
24: 2 artillery, 1 mortar
27: 3 artillery

And, the results are quite good :)

Mortars have splash damage too. So, we're topping up with mortars, wherever possible, once we've filled up to the maximum possible with artillery.

Well thats true, but I think it can be useful only on specific bases. If you have walls around there or obstacles, bazookas sucks as they cant shoot over walls...and they dont have splash damage. (USA elite tried that lot of times earlier in the yeear, I read that somewhere)

Yep very similar to us :-D we found we actually take the enemy off guard and win better with the mortar combinations thrown in

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think now all defensive troops can shoot over walls.

I know for sure now tanks and rifled footies can shoot over walls. So maybe bazookas can too.

Although their range can be very small indeed.

Thats true, but that thing with tanks I consider a temporary bug. At least I hope so!

It has been confirmed to be a bug in another thread. If they can't shoot over walls on offense, then they shouldn't be on defense.

Defensive unit shooting over wall has been fixed with the last update (except siege and shooter of course). I'm interested with bazooka though. The full HT attack proved to be unstoppable. Wondering if bazooka is viable strategy against this... (Just A thought)
