Advanced Combat is the final Era of Warfare for DomiNations 5th Anniversary and includes the post-World War II Era into the Digital Age. Many of the advancements during this period derive from the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. Rocket research programs were started by both countries based on the V-2 rockets developed by Germany during World War II. The intercontinental ballistic missile, ICBM, would be developed from those programs, first by the Soviet Union in 1957, and then by the United States in 1958. The Soviet Union used an ICBM to launch the first artificial satellite, Sputnik I, into orbit, marking the start of the space race. Satellites opened numerous opportunities in the realms of communication, navigation, and weather tracking. ICBM technology laid the foundation for many of the manned rockets sent into space. Eventually, landing on the Moon would largely end the space race. One of the next major advancements during this period was the rise of unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs. Drone technology offered a new avenue for combating adversaries, one that has lasted into the 21st century.
