Are the British Black Watch any good?

I started with the British nation, but I changed to Japanese about a month ago. I recently changed back to the British because the Japanese didn't fit well with my offensive and active playing style. I like the British unique unit a lot because I get a complete victory a lot with a bunch of loot. I know the nation's loot bonus isn't very good, and I hope they increase it later in the game. I saw that the troop for the industrial Age British nation is the Black Watch. Anyone know how good they are? I love their range increase, and Japan didn't have that much to offer to my playing style. Plus, the British look really cool!

They are very good in EA vs EA bases. I haven't tested them in IA, but they should be good backed by artillery and air units. May even come back home sometimes

Yes in my opinion, the British archers are by far the best unique in the game at the moment. Some British players attack by archer spamming and are to take out defensive buildings like redoubts and towers from a distance without even getting hit. This makes me think that this unique is bit too powerful relative to everything else. After all in boxing, arm length and reach are important factors when judging a boxer. If you can hit your opponent/target from distance without getting hit in return, that's a pretty unfair advantage game design-wise.

That's what I love about them! I can come back after getting 5 stars with at least half my troops alive.

EDIT: I meant the British Unique unit, and not the Black Watch. I know that you can't unlock the black watch until Industrial Age.

I see your point, but if the British were to have their troops nerfed, the whole nation would be worthless.

I think they are perfectly balanced in terms of power and need some AI improvement. It is still easy to waste all you brits army with one wrong rally or vs generals/smart defense.

But this is how nations uniques should be giving you unique attacking strategy. No nerfs, yes to soldiers/tanks buffs

Indeed. The Japanese samurai were weak, and that's one of the main reasons I switched.

they are great troops, but the AI is pretty bad and you'll lose you're whole army at least a few times ever session because of it.

Yeah, i was roman, and switched to British because i never used their special units. But every session there are a few times i want to throw my phone across the room because of the dumb ranged unit AI.

I personally think they are far and away the best unique in the game and that they need to be rebalanced (along with all archer/riflemen units).

I find the black watches to be the best riflemen in the game. Hate it when those black watches clean up my base.

It’s quite insulting that dominations calls the black watch an English regiment , they are a proud Scottish regiment , it’s a bit like saying the Mounties are American , I have been asking dominations to change this for 2 years and they keep saying they will fix it eventually . As far as fighters in the game they are excellent
