Is the atomium really worth it? 10% research reduction doesn't seem like it's all that much to me.

if you put more than ten worker in university, yes,it is good

extra worker is more flexible, so less stress.
atomium is better if you know you are about to spend a lot of time with all your workers in the university.... but if you make decisions flexibly go sydney.

If there isn't a good sale going on, I usually have all workers in university. So I guess it would be best to go with atomium then?

Yes. It is geared towards late game. Also uni upgrades do eclipse normal upgrades at a certain point.

The cumulative effect of the 10% reduction in time would be significant enough, if you have quite a lot of researches pending at the University.
The effects would be more pronounced if you have a lot of pending researches under Leonardo da Vinci, King Sejong, Sultan Saladin, and Catherine.
It'll also help you get to the capstone faster for Leonardo da Vinci and King Sejong, which will in turn help you with other upgrades.

it is actually 15% reduction, because it reduce 10% of original time and you have other reduction too.

i went with an extra citizen from opera, 1 more worker = 1 more trap upgrade which is 10 days duration i guess that's more valuable for me than -10% research time since I almost finished all offensive upgrades and only defensive ones left with no intention to max any leader except the new ones

and then once you get davincis capstone its a whopping 25% which is really amazing.
