Yeah we've only just started doing it, and I have thought about the types of things you've mentioned. There is some work involved in collating it all into a spreadsheet etc which takes time, and in updating the team how the leaderboard is progressing during the wars. To be honest keeping track of all the failed attacks and what level attacked what level etc would simply make it too complicated for me to compile.
I think what you've said would be better, it's just the logistics of it. We work somewhat on the honor system. We have an expectation that what is best for the team is what people will do, i.e. not just smashing bases way under their ability. If people are caught doing that they are disqualified and quite frankly would be booted from the alliance.
Running it on net stars at the end of the war is is admittedly somewhat of a blunt instrument, but doing the competition over three wars rewards consistency and is fun enough to provide a bit of excitement and something to fight for even if we have no chance of winning the war.
