Best medal range for Oil? (Industrial Age)

I'm Industrial Age looking to target Oil specifically for the next couple of months to bring my research up to speed with my food/gold based ones and wondered if anyone had any advice on the best range to hunt? I've made it up as far as 2000 / 2100 but raiding at this level often leads to using a full deck of tactics and getting obliterated by Globals means it's creeping along slowly!

Hi Jimmy,

I used the last Rush of the Eras event to get to Industrial also - all the way back from a max gunpowder. I struggled a bit (for about a month) to keep my oil safe and to ride for it also. At that point I kept in medal range between 400 and 700. As soon as I upgraded my main and raiding army to the industrial level, I started climbing the medals with ease, and getting good amount of oil. For me, I "hit the wall" at medal range close to 1400. By this I mean, I cam continue to climb, but it is not worth the effort, and most likely the oil I ride will be stolen from me by globals in a couple of hours later.

So I kept in the medal range od 1000 to 1300 for the last month. In this range I was still being raided often by globals, and sometimes by industrials that decided to use tactics on my base, so last week I made a new decision to go back to the range 400 to 700. In the last week I was only attacked once by a global, and most attacks I suffer are people that want to drop medals also. I was only raided once seriously, which is good.

The disadvantages of being too low on medals for me are:
- The league bonus are crap. I was happy with the league bonus at the range 1000 to 1300. Mos of the times I got a troop card, which was good. Now back to the cider and metal.
- You have to hit next much more often, because there you will find a lot of enlightenment age bases with no very little oil.

The advantages are:
- You get resource stolen much less frequent
- When you are raided, what the raiders steel from you is much less than on higher medals

Based on the above I made decision to stay on low medal count (400 to 700) at least until I save enough oil for the factory and fort upgrades. Then maybe hit again the 1000 to 1400 medals, because by then I hope that my defense is already a much more mighty to keep most of the globals away - or not, lets see :)

So if I were you would drop medals and stay there. There are good bases to ride in the low medal count and you will loose fewer resources when raided. Usually I raide 10k of oil a day - more or less.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for the advice Bugalho - what army comp do you use down there? Is it raiders or more of conventional army?

Hi Jimmy,

Down there I don't lose too many troops, because there are a lot of easy bases with a good amount of oil (I only raid bases with at least 1k of oil). So I use my regular army most of the time. From time to time I use raiders to drop medals, but that is very sporadic at the moment. My main army is:
- 4 Tanks
- 5 Artilary
- 3 Healer truks
- 5 Infantary
- 29 Ranged Infantary
- 1 Plane (Upgrading now the airport to have 2 planes)
- 1 General
- 24 troops from alliance (usually 2 tanks and the rest rifleman)

Notes to the above: I only use the plane in last resort and if the oil amount of the base deserves the pain of loosing eventually the plane. I use the general and the 5 infantry just for base clean up, so I don't risk to loose the general, no matter what. Also, only use the alliance troops if the base is a bit more tricky/difficult and the oil amount is worth it. I don't like to always rely on alliance troops on my raids. Apart from that I use the all the other units.

When I use raiders I use the following composition:
- 2 Wall breakers
- Remaining space in raiders
- if left any space fill with infantary

I forgot to mention in my previous post, but another advantage of raiding in low medal count is the ease to 5 start bases, getting NTG for coalitions for war. I was having also a hard time getting them in the range 1000 to 1400. Most of the times I got all the oil, but only 3 or 4 starred the base, getting none or 1 NTG, which was a pain... In the low medal count I have now all NTG at maximum storage capacity. :)

I may get again to the higher medal count just to get some troop cards, but I am more than convinced that low medal count is the best for raiding - at least for me :)

What works best for me is the "up and down" technique. You first climb on the leagues then you make just raiders and a couple of engeneers, put a troop blessing and go loot for an hour. Use as few raiders as possible per attack, you'll naturally reduce your amount of medals, so, when you go too low make you main army and start climbing the leagues again!
You can loot really fast on your free times.
