DomiNations Update 12.16 - Detachments

DOM_SM_Update_1216_v1_EN_1920x1080.png

Greetings Leaders,

The future of warfare in DomiNations is ready for deployment! We’re introducing a brand new way to control your army in battle, new Automation Age upgrades, and two new attack-oriented Councilors. Read on to see what you can expect arriving in our update for next week's 3/26 rollout!

Detachments
DomiNations Update 12.16 looks to revitalize combat as you know it with Detachments! This new system will have you creating groups of Troops and Generals that can be quickly deployed together with a single tap. You can create up to three detachments and precisely control your army while attacking an enemy base.

DOM_Detachments_MedAgeLayout_4k.png

Detachment Editor
Organize groups of barracks troops, factory troops, and generals into up to three detachments using the new Detachment Editor. Each detachment may contain up to one Leader and three Supporting Units. Only a General may be assigned as a Leader, while Supporting Units may include barracks troops, factory troops, as well as other Generals.

Each Detachment has a maximum troop capacity, which is 40% of your army’s total troop capacity (rounded up). Troops may not be added to a detachment if doing so would exceed its troop capacity. However, you’ll run out of army troop capacity before you’re able to fill all three detachments–this is intentional. Generals in a detachment do not occupy any troop capacity. You can also choose to leave any space empty in a Detachment.

Deploying C.png

Deployment Restrictions
In battle, a detachment is deployed as a group. The leader is deployed first, if one exists, then the remaining units are deployed in order from left to right.

Detachments may not be deployed from Tactical Helicopters.

In your Troop Tray, the Troops and Generals that are part of a Detachment are highlighted with their corresponding letter and color. Troops and Generals that aren’t part of a Detachment are deployed the same way that you’re used to.

Rally Cooldown.png

Rallying Detachments
A deployed detachment responds to both the Army Rally as well as its detachment-specific rally.

The detachment-specific rally can be used to directly control units in that detachment separately from the rest of your army. To use a specific Rally, first select it by tapping on the Detachment you wish to control either on the right side of the screen or in the Troop Tray. Then tap the target or destination you wish for that Detachment to rally to.

In the image above, Detachment A is highlighted on both the Troop Tray and the Rally icon on the right. This is to indicate that you’re currently controlling Detachment A, and the cooldown timer shows that you have recently activated its Rally.

Clearing Icons in Battle
You’ll also want to notice the new red markers on the Troop Tray! After a Troop has been wiped out during battle, tapping this will remove that Troop Button, and all other buttons with this icon, from your Troop Tray! This will reduce the scrolling required for quick strategies as the battle rages on.

Automation Age Upgrades: Storehouse & Shipyard
This update adds a new level to the Storehouse & Shipyard. The Level 15 Shipyard receives new expeditions and the introduction of new exclusive Troop Tactics only available here. Based on player feedback, we also took this opportunity to update the expedition rewards for Shipyard levels 13 and 14 with stronger Troop Tactics.

New Councilors
Update 12.16 will introduce two new Councilors. Unlike our previous addition, Ada Lovelace, these two will appear with identical bonuses for War and Peace.

DOM_Council_Hatshepsut_Full_Stats_EN_1920x1080.png

Hatshepsut (Diplomat)
Hatshepsut, one of ancient Egypt's most extraordinary rulers, defied tradition by becoming king around 1479 BCE. Hatshepsut’s most enduring legacy lies in her ambitious building projects, including the Karnak Temple Complex, the Red Chapel, the Speos Artemidos, and especially her grand mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari. She also revitalized trade and boosted Egypt's economy, most notably through a famous expedition to Punt. By focusing on internal stability and expanding Egypt’s reach through diplomacy and commerce, she fostered a flourishing and secure empire.

In DomiNations Hatshepsut will improve the effectiveness of Mortar and Heavy Infantry while reducing Enemy Wall Strength. Hatshepsut will be first available starting 4/14.

Charles Babbage (Scholar)
Born December 26th, 1791, Charles Babbage was an English mathematician, philosopher, inventor, and mechanical engineer who is credited with the original conception of a digital programmable computer. He invented the first mechanical computer, the Difference Engine, which led to his development of the Analytical Engine, a device that utilizes all the same fundamental principles that make up a modern-day computer.

Charles Babbage will help as a Councilor in DomiNations by reducing the strength of Enemy Towers and Anti Air Defenses. Charles Babbage will be first available starting 5/12.

Additional Fixes
  • Removed a vulnerability that allowed for seeing when Alliances were queued up for a World War.
    • This helps to strengthen our security improvements and anti-cheating efforts.
  • Updated the Alliance Contributor Daily Quest
    • If an Alliance has completed all Alliance Laws this quest will now automatically complete.
Edit 3/26: A hotfix to Update 12.16 is scheduled to release in a few days and will be a part of a forced update. This 12.16.1 hotfix will change the following:
  • Players will no longer get stuck in the opening tutorial for detachments if they have an active event building in their base when they update the app.
  • The “ready for battle” button in the Prepare for Battle screen will have a more correct touch target on wide aspect ratio devices
  • While it remains possible to add most trainable event troops to detachments, doing so with the Night Witch will no longer be possible as that created a bug which only allowed that troop to be deployed once in battle.

The detachments may take some time to get used to at first, but I think it's generally a good change. However, I have one wish for improvement:
A detachment should be saved until I tap 'clear'. It shouldn't be delete by game - that leads to annoying behavior: Let's say I clear mortars to recruit&donate a few helicopter or HT to my alliance. Then I recruit mortars again and expect my grouping to exist again. Unfortunately this is not the case. So I have to create the same detachment several times a day.
That's why I completely disabled detachments. I donate troops to war bases and fill MRLs or cannons or Helis or mortars. So that messes up my detachment setup. Also, I do not know if I have deployed a detachment or not. I did tap the icon but at least on 3 occasions, my artillery only detachment was not deployed although I did tap on the appropriate button.

Precisely why I think detachments are an overhyped, unnecessary benefit to the game.
Totally agree. Adds limited value and over complicates the display and attacking. How it worked before was fine. Been playing for 5+years but this is the first upgrade that has made me seriously consider stopping playing.

U can tell on the right hand side if it's deployed, but it's annoyingly in the wrong place and it's too easy to rally an already deployed detachment by mistake.
Most of the attack screen is now annoyingly in the wrong place.
I'm sure they mentioned putting frequently used buttons together, but didn't do it, instead stuck some on the right hand side of the screen and made it worse than it was before.

Worst update they did since I been playing.
Made the core part of the game just frustrating and annoying to play.

On top of the changes to war matches, that means we getting terrible match up on top of terrible match up, and on top of the changes to daily tasks that reset at the most inconvenient time and at different times to the tasks they relate to. What's going on?

No doubt the recent survey will tell them that 33% of the people like the changes and that'll be good enough for them to claim a victory.

I gave them the lowest score I've ever given the game
Why so categorical about the game? In general, the game is wonderful!... but there are nuances... but the development team is disgusting, you can't argue with that

I have to take back my previous comment - detachments actually work well once you figure them out. I've been using them to good success with my lower ages, where the normal rally isn't as fast as later ages. Using the main rally, then rallying each detachment can keep your troops moving along at a fine pace. Although my Info and Auto accounts don't need them I suspect it's being used a lot in wars cos every advantage counts, right?
So credit where it's due - these work once you find the knack.
And it galls me to say this cos I so much didn't want to like them. 😄

When the detachments are moved to the end of the list in tray, everything will be fine.

The buttons on the right of the screen need to be moved too, I'm left handed, I play on a tablet, they are really annoying over there.
The planes and tactic buttons we were promised would be moved closer together, they weren't, but they moved the rally buttons to a much worse place.
It's too hard to see if detachments are deployed, easy to miss one and easy to rally an already placed one, cos the only place I can see that I can tell is those buttons on the right hand side.
The new world war matching is giving us terrible match after terrible match.
The new quests reset at different times to the quests they relate to. Donate to alliance for example is a different reset time, and the quest reset means I can't play when I have free time during a day cos my quests haven't reset yet.
All this is why I gave the game a low score in the survey.

If you mean the troops themselves then I agree, otherwise I don't want to add to the already long tray list.
Actually can't see myself using the detachments too much more in the future. They're a great novelty item, but I'll be going back to the old way of just using the main rally. It's just better visually and gives you more time to enjoy the battle.
Unless you're one of the players who gives a sh!t about wars and being on the top of the leaderboards, the detachments shouldn't worry you.
