Don't get too caught up in walls. I am almost 3/4 of the way done with level 15 yellow walls and I still get destroyed regularly in war. With an army of wall breakers and motorcycle raiders, people can still take my oil and resources. Walls help, but a strong defense with solid base design is even better. A combination of both is golden. Most people recommend level 9 walls because after level 9, the cost of upgrade is enormous for limited HP gains (until level 15). After level 9, upgrade walls at your leisure. As a lower level player (as I was), all you can do is out-raid your losses and spend down resources to avoid getting gutted. Upgrade your offense fully, then the pertinent defenses until your base holds up decently to full scale attacks and move on. As an aside, I never found raiding for walls as easy as I do now. High level planes and troops on abandoned bases make effortless resource gathering.
Progress so far on defence Mortar 2× Lvl 5, 1× lvl 4. Cannon Tower 1× lvl 4, 2× lvl 3. Redoubt 1× lvl 2, 2× lvl 1. Tower 1x lvl 8, 4x lvl 7, 1× lvl 6.
Garrison 3× lvl 6, 1× lvl 5, 1× lvl7
Stable 2× lvl5 and 1× lvl 4
No factory
Looking good for an EA base in terms of upgrades. Unless you have a lot of crowns, this game becomes one of villager time management (and resource management for the casual players). You will find the upgrade time to leap significantly from EA defenses to IA defenses, often without a corresponding boost in DPS and HP. Therefore, it makes sense to upgrade defensive structures to at least EA level. This is not to say you shoud be max EA defenses before advancing to IA. I personally like max mortars, decenly upgraded cannon towers, towers to a certain extent, 1 Garrison to max, 1 stable to max (other stables near max) and max traps. I'm sure you've had discussions on which structures to prioritize within your own alliance
Yes our leader reckons on lvl 9 walls before advancing. Some way to go. Plus a couple of level 10 generals which i'm pretty close to. I'm maxing out all traps....are they quite important??
Level 11 walls are max for Enlightenment. I suggest ya cap them every age so ya don't get attacked so often. Others will say different. In my experiences capped walls have helped me more than when I didn't cap them so go figure ;-]
Its not so much about what level... but your game playing style.
If you are a serious grinder, that grinds gold and food even when you dont need it for worker library and other upgrades just keep upgrading your wall. Easiest way is to ensure you have 1 worker spare all the time (or once a day) spend the gold and food... then start grinding again. Then there is no limit in walls! (well leevel 15 in AA)
If your a more casual player just keep all workers going 24/7. Keep a good amount of resources READY to start the next worker project as they finish, and if there is any left over dump it into walls.
YES higher walls do save you in both PVP and WW battles every now and then. It may noot be as pretty as a maxed mortar, but troops stuck on a wall for 15-30 seconds quickly eats down the clock especially if your base design means they have to do it a few times, each time resulting in a new crossover of defensive tower circles.
