Food Merchandising through the Dock

I'm sure most of us here, at some point of time, have had food stacked up but not enough citizens/Armory to use it up.
I suggest making use of the dock to do food merchandising in a similar way like Expedition.
At an earlier Age, players would have a choice of a few destinations to sell food to in a form of bartering, with the possibility to exchange Food for Trade Goods, Blessing or small amount of Gold Shipments. As the player upgrades the dock, more developed and wealthy destinations is made available, player would then be able to sell the Food to those destinations for much higher amount of Gold or even Oil.
The maximum number of times a player can do this should be limited to once per day, which can be increase to twice or more per day through upgrading the dock. There should also be a time gap between sending the Food out and receiving the exchanged items/payment(also known as the traveling time), which would depend on the destination chosen.
I also think that this can be applied to other resources, ie Gold, Oil, etc, too.

Why not a market where we can trade gold for food or food for gold?

I agree that it should not need workers for merchandising.
The "destinations", which I borrowed the concept from Expedition, would provide diversified offers for players to choose to merchandise/trade with. Players can accept or decline(by ignoring it) the offer(s) provided, and new offer(s) would be automatically be generated once the existing offer(s) expires after a given time.
Perhaps players can also hire foreign workers, which would stay at a player's town/city for a limited time, through this merchandising system to temporarily ease the problem of insufficient workers for upgrades.
The reason I suggest using the Dock instead of creating a new market that is designated for merchandising is because there's already a Dock readily available that could be used and, more importantly, it has been a common way of merchandising/trading between different civilizations/states through boats/ships, especially in the past few centuries. Up till now, it still remains as one of the common means of transporting goods to different parts of the world.

Expeditions and trade are almost the same in theory. If you also trade at the dock it sort of clashes with the expeditions.

The Expedition system and my suggestion, the Merchandising system, might sound similar. However, I find the current Expedition more like an exploration to foreign places and it requires workers(with an optional General). While the Merchandising system I suggested would only require resources(ie food, etc) instead of our precious workers. The resources/items tradable for should be slightly different, more pratical and much better, ie significantly stronger troops, foreign workers(aka temporary workers), higher amount of resources, etc, in relative to the current Expedition system.
