We are interested to fusion with another alliance. Probably there is no in game support for doing such action directly. The easiest way how to achieve it would be that all the members would leave our alliance and join the other one. However, there is one important question I did not find an answer to: Is it possible for the last member to leave an alliance, and what happens with the alliance when the last member leaves?

Well from what I know it goes down in history and obtains martyrdom.

if the leader leaves first they must pass on the leader position...rinse and repeat.

once the leader is the very last person to leave, the alliance is deleted essentially.

I have been through this recently. Yes, when the last member leaves an alliance it gets deleted. Something you might like to bear in mind is that upon leaving an alliance your stats for things like troop donations get wiped. If one of the alliances has a decent amount of glory it would make sense to go to them, otherwise it might be fairer to start a new alliance and all start from scratch.
