Going To Cold War - Defense vs Roads For Xp

Putting aside the fact that upgrading your roads will allow you to jump several levels and get you to cold war age faster than any upgrades ever will, I had a curious comment regarding it. Assuming for the moment that you don't care about the issue of time, would it be better just to upgrade traps and defenses to get to cold war or should one just use the roads. Offensively there's not much for me to upgrade other than generals but I don't really want to upgrade them. I'm currently 200 atomic and just pondering the idea of going to cold war age. Most of my traps are level 7/8/9 and Sams are level 2 so I can definitely keep upgrading them to get a good amount of levels. My Anti air guns are maxed and I'm finishing most of my anti tanks guns off to max. My towers and mortars however are still someone low level so I can always upgrade them as well to get levels. The only reason it requires a little thinking is that I'm the number 1 base in war and will always be for the foreseeable future. When we win wars that are very tight, it's because my base holds out at the very end being that I toss on level 7 def coals and many wars I get attacked at least 3-5 times. I also smash the hardest bases of course but that's always been a gimme. So I wonder if I should upgrade defenses until to get to cold war thus helping our war efforts as well because I feel a responsibility to the alliance war effort. There's also the war weight that's added because of it while roads don't affect it (I believe). I don't know if the war weight will change much of anything match wise. I would love to hear some insight and thanks in advance

I believe the road XP bug has been fixed. Last time I upgraded roads, I barely got a level.

I read somewhere that the high exp from roads ends at GA. I’m GA myself and haven’t upgraded roads any further because of this.

i went for upgrades that give the most xp per worker time. mostly traps that require 1 worker, farms and caravans while they require 2 workers. i figured if i can donate CWA howies sooner, that will be my contribution to war effort (im the only one in CW in my alliance, the best attacker, the best donator, but not the best defender. situation may be a bit different)

Since you say that your base already holds up well on defense using three defensive coalitions, it might be a good idea to focus on upgrades that give the most XP per worker time and advance to the Cold War Age.

The reasoning behind this is if your base is already doing well on defense, spending a lot of additional time on upgrading more defenses might not make a lot of difference to your current situation.
Compared to that, unlocking Cold War Age troops for yourself and for your alliance (through donations) would be a step up on the overall offensive capabilities.
Plus, this would also unlock the CWA level upgrades for your currently Atomic Age level defensive buildings. Prioritizing the Atomic to CWA level defensive upgrades would provide a better boost to your defensive capabilities for the time invested in those defensive upgrades, compared to catching up on upgrades to other defensive buildings that are at lower levels.

Hope this helps!
Cheers and happy gaming! :)

They patched road xp to a point. From 6 to 7 you get a lot xp (1243 per piece) but from 7 to 8 (Which I think it becomes global) and so on, it falls off drastically. I think its only 27 xp per piece. That's what I read on the wiki page and a few players have also said this. So upgrading past lvl 7 will only get you about 3k experience which is not really worth the effort considering it would take 6 days and 2 citizens. You would be better off upgrading 2 traps in the same time frame to get more xp.

Thanks for the comment. I just finished my last war an hour ago and we won 75-73 because I held up. It was a level 7 alliance vs our 10 but they had amazing attackers and while their defenses weren't great they were offensively one of the better alliances we have seen in a while. I could see their strategy from their first few attacks, they win using time because they destroyed everyone in lightning fast time. We are good at attacking but my alliance isn't fast so this was a good challenge. Had they taken my base out, we would've lost by 4-5 minutes. That's why our glory gain was much higher than loss this war. Even for being level 7 only they already had more glory than we did. But watching them attack my base with multiple elephant archer cards, I think you're advice was the correct one, to move up quickly and just use the cold war troops to help our offense.

I think it's always better to upgrade meaningful buildings first. Not much sense in high lvl roads, farms, caravans. 220 can be hit well before max defence and offence.
