I always end up getting too much food and probably enough gold. Main cause of this is probably the wall, which allows me to dump excess gold. Another thing is the buildings that require gold to upgrade are defensive buildings. This allows you to spend gold on multiple buildings so you can always use gold efficiently. On the other hand, buildings that require food for upgrading are mostly economic buildings or upgrade buildings. Due to the fact that most of the income in this game comes from the looting and the limited amount of workers, people prioritize or never upgrade economic buildings and upgrade buildings only need to be upgraded once per age. This makes food extremely inefficient to stock on compared to gold. To solve this, I think changing garrison type cost food instead of gold, so that you would be able to spend food as efficiently as gold. Another solution would be creating a quick dump for food, I.E: walls and gates which you can instantly spend food on.
In short, currently, food and gold spending balance is broken so garrison and stable type buildings change to cost food instead of gold so you can spend food more efficiently in order to balance spending amount + create somewhere to dump excess food like walls.
I wrote it really badly on my tldr. I meant there should be something to dump food in instantly with only one citizen required like walls which you can dump gold in. Not changing wall upgrade cost food.
