I am staying French and still in GP age. I have upgraded my troops and tactics. All that is left in the library is farm related so I won't even bother with those. So, my question is, I am now trying to 5 star max GP and early EA bases. What troops composition would some of you use. I have had some luck with 3 bombarded, 2 supply carts, 3 horsemen, 26 ranged and 10 foot men. I use protect and maybe 1 sabotage. Any ideas that would work better against the harder bases would be helpful.

In GA greek I had success with using a lot of horsemen. You might want to try that with the french horses. Take away 1 bombard and 15 rifles, replace with 4 calvary.

Good luck

Thanks, going to give that a try. I have 4 starred a level 119 EA base that had sprung traps and tons of loot, but haven't been able to really get my bombards to go where they needed to be. I see that the horsemen would do a better job at attacking the right structures first.

Just a few calvary are near useless. They only take up troop space. Destroy a few defences and die.

But if you bring 8-10 calvary, followed by 2 healers and a few rifles. They are almost unstoppable in GP. Especially when they are French or Greek.
I used to roll with 13 or 14 calvary in GPA. And 16 in EA. (If I remember correctly)

Good luck.

I was using about the same set up as you in ga, however I was korean at the time so it was a little different. I would roll with just a couple of horses knowing full and well that they wouldn't return. their main goal was to keep the fire power off of my shooters and cannons, and only had to make it through have the battle to serve their purpose. Using a protect also always a good idea

BV123 has given you good advice. I'm IA French and at GP, you definitely want to start increasing your calvary. I never ran with bombards until they became cannons. (Note: I didn't switch to French until EA, but bombards just never did anything for me.)

After 4 raids with 10 horsemen,2 healers and the rest ranged, I have found that I can take out all the defenses on about every upgraded GP base I have found and I can do the same with EA bases if the walls are not to age level. Big problem, I can't get 5 stars because I don't have the dps to go back and get the loot. I use my General about halfway through the battle but have missed out on the farms and Mills everytime. I went back to my old computer and 5 starred a fairly good base with the only troops lost were 6 ranged. I guess my playstyle might not be the same as others. I didn't use any blessings during the testing either which I normally do have. I will keep playing around with the mix and see if I can come up with a balance that gets the loot too. Thanks for the input, I know my troops won't cut it in higher ages.

I keep 2 raiders on hand. Rarely use them, but it would take care of the issue of farms and mills being left behind.

Yup, kirsteym is right, throw in a couple of raiders, they take down blds fast at the end of a battle

Yes,that is a thought. I have never used them before so that could be the element I'm missing. Thanks, back to testing.

Its all about the troop combo and deployment. Naturally you release the cavalry first followed by archers and healers. About halfway (or so) into the battle release the raiders to mop up while your other troops are doing their thing.

As you said, keep testing - you'll fine tune as you go along.

You are on the right track...just fine tune your troop combo a bit at a time. And eventually you will get it. Don't give up.

Reduce your rifles until it is just sufficient to protect the rest of your troops from defenders. The remainder select troops for your clean up. Raiders, footies or bombard... your choice.

Don't change too much. Only a few troops at a time. That's how you know if you are going towards the right direction or not.

Yep, that is what I am doing now as Korean EA and working pretty well for looting.

I use my bombards effectively and my least is 4 stars... Still OK by me since I get most loot, many medals
(My problem is that my medal us too high..:-D 1000+ for a defenseless GP age
I use 4 bombards and 2 heal cart... The rest is 45 rifles....but my 4 sabotage is my power too
I deploy mercs or alliance troops (usually tank)if I want to attack from areas of immediate fire but other wise I drop bombards first

But I need to know how you guys use 10 Heavy Calvary and win....slow on black walls and weak to defending ballista and pikemen
I'll like to try it

But only when I have the light tank and Heavy tank
