Perhaps I should tell you a story .... of long ago. Before time existed as far as the official incomplete worldwide release is concerned. A time of new beginnings, where walls did not have raxor wire, planes and big balloons did not rule the sky, oil had not yet been discovered. The top players were names whispered in awe .... When generals were few ... gather round as I take you back to a time before some of you existed in the gaming world of DomiNations
The game was still new back then, full of promise and players that ruled the leader board were revered. Names that only a few now remember .... Marvel, LordJohnny (its been so long I am not sure of the spelling), Haki, Shinji, Booquia and others that I have forgotten with age. Young 4U2NV trailing behind with learner plates attached. TopDominators were well and truly at the top with Vanguards hot on their heels. The forum was run by a select few, What What with his sarcastic tongue, never a nice word uttered ... Aussie Guy so big and masterful with his opinions, just don't dare challenge him and of course Dbjuski ... I know I have spelt that wrong it needs a few more letters... sorry
Back in the day ... I was just a little player, looking for a home (only because it was part of a challenge to score crowns ) I had no intention of playing the game for more than a short time. You know how it goes, you start a game, get bored or find something new to play with ... anyway, back then there were not hundreds of thousands of alliances to choose from. A long list of candidates, not in alphabetical order, including some of the top 100 were offered up. I did not wish to start out with a big full on alliance, being the little newbie that I was, so I chose the one alliance that attracted me the most. It was small at the time and it grew ... and grew. I settled in, played quietly ( yes ... there was a time) and learnt the game as best I could. The leader ( thats a separate story) was encouraging, talked with his guys .. praising achievements etc. His first online gaming experience too, so he promoted players based on ... no idea now. I digress. ..
The game had issues. Traps would be sprung but no attack recorded !! The game would crash .... unbelievable I know. And rumours of more servers were circulating. One by one top players changed as they quit. Marvel was one of the first to go. I thought the bases back then were impressive ...
Remember the 25 straight wins challenge? I do ... I left this challenge too late. Forgot about it actually, really should have cared a lot more when my army was able to swarm like angry ants over bases with nice picket fences. But ... I didn't. Not too concerned about medals, and no idea why my traps were still sprung naive little me decides to tackle this challenge before the big bases get too hard. So off to a great start ... and lost. Sigh ... lets try that again ... get to 7 in a row and ... fudge!! Grumble grumble. .. ok be more careful this time. Go for the easy ones. Ok ... closer and closer. Finally the end is in sight. 23 wins just 2 more. Mercs full, tactics full, army at the ready and lets finish this..... apparently not. The server crashed the game. Insert abusive language towards the server and a major tantrum. I remember that day too clearly ...
I had to explain to the leader that night when he came on to play why my medal count had dropped over 200 medals. It was the result of my tantrum of course. I raided using only a few troops and borrowing rss from the neighbours.
I did achieve the 25 in a row milestone. I was relieved as the rumour mill was picking up on something a lot of players were dreading ... Worldwide release ( not to the whole world but ... ). How on earth could they think this would be a good idea when we were having so many crashes .... yet here we are today.
