Is the zeppelin all that valuable?

Just today someone launched an attack on me with a single zeppelin. I thought this was strange as from the attack summary I could see that no other forces were used.

I proceeded to check out the replay and sure enough, a single zeppelin was launched against me. As I saw it sailing I thought to myself, "nice, I'll have one of those soon." Seconds later it was obliterated just by three towers that are 2 levels below their maximum.

Is this how easy it is to knock a zeppelin out of the sky? If so I'm worried that it won't be of much use to me and I should have chosen the Brandenburg Gate instead...

I believe it is awesome. Use it together with airplane to slow towers down or sabotage them first. you need to calculate the direction thoroughly to not waste it! Sometimes it will sail from the other side of the map and be shot down... Castles, towers and redoubt can fire at air units. Support them and protect them and you will not be disappointed
What you saw must have been a miss click or a first time user of Zeppelin. You can not use it alone!

It is very fragile, but does insane amounts of damage. As long as you are careful with it, it is absolutely devastating. Its like a demolition tactic that you can use over and over and over again.

Have your army prioritize towers, and watch your zeppelin completely annihilate the rest of his base (especially mortars and AT guns)

I have maxed out airship/zeppelin and triplane and max health and attack from library research and they get destroyed from time to time. Like mr suplex said, zero is very powerful, it can takeout 2-3 defensive at a time if line up together, but It only have about 1000 hit points, triplane is over 2500 hit points. It takes quite a few fail battles to learn what not to do because it's still a bit unpredictable which direction it would approach the target(s).

That said, once you have it you wouldn't go to battle without it.

It is a specialist troop and as such you need to deploy it accordingly. You wouldn't use your foot troop to destroy a cannon tower - why would you use your Zep to destroy an archer tower?
Ok, the first archer tower maybe .... after that your Zep will be too damaged to destroy another.

Use it wisely and you will annihilate most bases. If you do deploy it by accident, or it comes from a different side of the screen, use sabotage or send in the biplane quickly. The biplane will distract the towers.
