Nation Recommendation

Hey all!

I am about 3 hours from Iron Age, and from what I'm reading, that will be when I choose my nation. I have read the wiki, several threads here, and some other sites regarding Nation choice.

I do see myself playing this game quite a bit. I am a more offensive minded player (at least in games like CoC I am).

What Nation would you all recommend? The ones that are grabbing my attention are French and British.

As a player that's played both nations extensively, I'll have to say they are both excellent choices. It really comes down to preferred style of play. If you want to have the best chance at 5 staring your opponents, then go with the British as their ranged units are killers when you have a critical mass of them. But if you are just into quick and easy battles and don't care about losing your army, then go with French for the reduced training times.

So with British...is it better to just build a mass army of archers and spam?

At the highest level of gameplay u have 2 choices

1) us crowns ($) to fast train stuff like tactics, generals, aircraft, blessings. Some players call that the kitchen sink attack. If ur willing to do that then u can go for 5 star attacks im which case romans and british are a great choice.

2) if u intend to be a free player than at the highest level of the game ur army will not be strong enough to wipe out an industrial base. Which means u will lose ur entire army every battle. Then french with their faster training and sniping will get u best medals and resources per hour

I almost feel like you are trolling me with #2. If I am a 'free' player and I have a full army (let's say they're both French or even Roman)...why will my army not be 'strong' enough? I can see spending money to speed up or what not..but if both players are the same level with the same army builds (I understand base can be different), how does being a "free" player hurt?

Maybe I'm just not understanding what you're saying. Most games like this, the only benefit to paying is to speed up progress/training/troops. But once it's all "maxed" I don't know what the difference would be.

Regardless, I do appreciate your input on #1 that you listed.

He's not trolling. The reason you won't have enough firepower is because Tactics take too long to retrain, Mercenaries are too expensive and Generals are 1-time use unless they take no damage. If you want to use all of these on every attack, the only way to do so is to use crowns.

Gotcha. That makes more sense. I wasn't sure how to take his response :)

That being said...I would assume you guys are talking about those who plan on using every single thing, on every single battle. Which, makes sense as it would take hours to setup 1 battle.

Back to my actual question though:

Do the French speed up tactics or troops only? I'm still torn between Nations :/

It only speeds up troops. While France is the best post-Enlightenment Age, when their training speed can be coupled with the Training Blessing making it the best Nation Ability by far near late-to-endgame, you may find it underwhelming until then. Whereas the British Unique Unit and Ability will be useful at all Ages.

I wouldn't read too much into it, crowns are relatively easy to save up if you want to change your nation or wonders later. Choose whichever nation you find interesting, there isn't a "correct choice" until after Enlightenment Age.

That makes sense. I may just go with British, as archer spamming always works (in other games lol). And if I stick with it through Enlightenment Age and feel the need to change, so be it.

Now...on to the wonders choice haha

In regard to wonders, avoid the Pyramids, Terracotta Army, Temple Tikal, Taj Mahal and Eiffel Tower like the plague. The rest come down to your own personal preference.

Haha. Thanks! I'm thinking Hanging Gardens (b/c I read it can increase cider retrieval later on) and then Notre Dame. The rest will take me ages to get too haha

At the early ages, mass archer spam works well, but at the later ages you'll find a mix of archers & cannons with a healer or 2 works best.

I disagree with 2)
90% of my opponents are industrial and in more than 90% of those matches I have a returning army (I never buy blessings, mercenaries or tactics). There are bases that I skip, of course ;-)

I agree with you molfas. But I think he was referring to the base he faces every day: maxed defense and high level walls.

Just 1 thing to add: it depends on the gaming experience you like. French is the best nation If you want to climb to the highest medal rank because in those league, you don't care about the loot, only about the medal. So you build some sort of kamikaze army with only one goal: take down the Town Center. BUT if you seak something different where you devise a new strategy each battle to clean up your opponent's base, then you maybe better chose nation with strong unique unit or abilities like brits, Korean or even german. With that experience, being in the highest league is pointless, you just target a league offering a good challenge based on your level

If you like archer spam - and who doesn't - speaking as a Brit I can also recommend the Koreans. I've seen firsthand what they can do to a base - allright, 'my' base. They may not have the extra range but they have additional punch. So while defenders may come a little closer to them than the Brit archers they still don't stand a chance against the Koreans - and die spectacularly quicker!

AND - I've just started a new game as the Koreans and all I can say about the archers is DAMNNN !!! It's 'almost' unfair to my opponents.

I hate the British... Only nation who have been able to five star my base lately have been British... Other nations have been forced to settle for 2-3 stars

(I am Roman, considering switching to French...) Currently playing in Kingdom 2 - soon entering 1
