Paying for extras?

Hello, I'm in the UK and was wondering if I can use those googleplay gift cards that you can buy in the shops?. I've never used them before and when I looked at buying your extras ....like the £8 starter pack, the terms and conditions suggested I needed a google wallet account!? And it was only for americans?.

So basically I just want to know if I can buy a google giftcard, scratch it off to reveal the serial number and just enter it in the box after selecting the starter pack?
