If I tag my alliance and leave would I be able to find my way back to it?

Of course. I believe if an alliance is in your favourites, it'll stay there even if they change the name.

I've always assumed that if you're the leader of your alliance and you leave without giving the leadership to someone else then the alliance would cease to exist - surely it's not possible to have a leaderless alliance?

I think Co-Leader automatically becomes a Leader.

If you are the Leader of your Alliance, and attempt to leave without promoting a successor, you are shown this popup message. After trying it just now, I noticed the system randomly selected one of the two Co-Leaders to promote to Leader. You can promote another player before you leave the Alliance, the same way you currently promote them to Council and Co-Leader

You should be able to re-join later if you like.
