Returning Troops!

So what's the story with troops only returning after all defense is destroyed?

Do the remainder of the troops just walk/ride up to the last standing redoubt to be annihilated? Oh, right, I suppose given the AI updates, they probably would...

So my suggestion is: let's have troops return from any victory.

(In addition, I'd suggest that a retreat option be added. This would be useful in raiding or in withdrawing with surviving troops in the event that a loss is inevitable.)

Thoughts?

Wait, what? You can technically have your troops return without even winning a victory, provided you destroy all defensive buildings.

This is a bad idea coz it is very unfair to defender. And ultimately it largely deducts the risk of attacking so it will even make raiding boring

Huh? Surviving troops wouldn't have any impact whatsoever on the defender.

And if you're responding to the suggestion about a retreat function (in parentheses), why shouldn't fast horsemen be able to loot caravans and then ride off without being killed? This would more closely match reality.

Hey Magnifco,

Thanks for responding. In response, I'm not sure I've ever taken out all defensive buildings without getting a win (at least for 50% destruction). The point is, once the tc and fc are destroyed, why couldn't the surviving troops just leave? I'm not sure why they have to die, just because there is a single tower remaining in the lower corner.

(By the way, my original post had a typo that I fixed almost immediately after posting. I originally said that a 5 star victory was required to have troops return, which was a mistake. Maybe you read it before I fixed it?)

I prefer the troops coming back only after defenses are destroyed because then it doesn't reward quick raids that take all your resources and still get their troops back. There would be a crazy amount of that going on,CoC doesn't let any troops come back at all, ever. I think that keeps the farming regulated to a degree, otherwise it would be a bit out of hand.

Hey Redprince,

Thanks for responding. Question for you. I haven't played cofc. How do they handle rebuilding? If you don't babysit your game while rebuilding troops, do you get attacked immediately?

The reason why it is unfair to defender because it encourage more people to easily attack resource only with large army as the know they can quit any time. So this is unfair. You argue in reality retreat can keep army. Then I will ask you, in reality, does revenge need to care if attacker already being attacked by somebody else so gaining a pt? No, it is better to revenge if the opponent is weaken already. refer to reality doesnot fit this argument.

I see your point as to why this would be a problem in regard to raiding, though I do think it would be more in line with reality. Maybe retreating would have to be difficult. For example, it could only work if no troops were close, or it could do a speed comparison. In the end, I'd prefer that people raid me and retreat, rather than raid me and force quit.

So how do you feel about cases where 1 defensive building is left standing and a full army rebuild is required?

As to revenge, I agree 100% with you, and the revenge functionality needs improvement, which has been discussed elsewhere.
