Hey all.. so kind of new to the game and I'm laying out my base.

Should I worry about connecting everything to a road? Right now everything I have touches a road, but I don't really understand the 10% road network thing.

Can anyone shed some light?

thanks!

Don't worry about the road, you're main income comes from raids.

It gives you 10% more gold from the roads, but the amount you get from it is nothing to worry about.. But to answer your question... The road needs to be connected whit your townhall, to get the bonus.

Thanks! So my road's connected to my town hall... and I've somehow managed to connect my roads to every building. If I move, say a farm, off the road... what's the impact of that? Because I get the red warning.

You will get 10% less gold. Notice that roads also make your defending troops walk faster, so make sure they go everywhere.

This isn't great advice. The road network is a neat feature that differentiates this game from Clash of Clans. By the time you get to Classical or Medieval Age and you have all your buildings connected to roads, your roads are earning 4000+/hour. Your main income is from raids, but why turn down 50,000 a day?

There's a base income that your roads generate based on their level. At Medieval, the entire road network makes less than 1000 a day, and each building adds 10%. Having all buildings connected gives a 400%+ bonus to the base, so missing one is not a big deal. But you should have many buildings connected to roads.

Thank you for the helpful info! So, would all of these buildings give you an additional 10% if connected to a road?

Or, do only specific ones apply?

I got to agree with Jacuer here that the roads are not really that important especially at the time when you need resources to upgrade the gold u get from the road is insignificant. Whether or not the roads differentiate the game from clash of clans is irrelevant. The fact remains that the resources you will be getting is from raiding. The roads and caravans and animals will only provide you gold when you don't have enough to look for opponents to raid. Other then that i agree with Jacuer the roads are insignificant until you reach the max age which is currently the enlightenment age at which point you can start trying to connect the roads as you will have a lot more buildings and roads so why not connect them.

My opinion is that it is more important to have a good layout and not worry about the roads as long as your goodies are safe ,I make 75% of my moniez from raids.

Most of the income comes from raids, that is true, but I agree with DsnowMan, why turn down some extra income if you can have it?.
Here is my base, it does pretty good for defence in Iron Age and has every single building connected for max income. It also has an acropolis covering both garrisons in case you have that wonder.
Maybe someone else can share a Classical Age base like this? my Town Center is on the way there now :)

Just my .02 cents but those that say most of your resource income comes from raids... that loot you raid is pumped in the game economy through each players ability to generate that loot. If there's a way to boost the overall loot being generated in the game economy, why not use it?

Howdy Omega IV,

Attached is my road network, I would be able to get a better one however, I need to wait until I reach classical age. (Not that far off!)

I agree that raiding is quicker and more useful to get gold, but roads are money for free. I have taken care to connect all buildings to roads and upgrade the roads to hold more capacity. It's useful when I don't play for a day and I can get a few extra thousand gold for nothing. Unless someone has raided me.
Just click on the road and all buildings connected glow with the road.

Be warned that it makes strategic layout very difficult, and forget about looking good, there are not enough roads to look good and be practical.

I think defending troops also move faster along roads. Not sure if the difference is fast enough to inform base design, but it seems worth mentioning in this thread.

I find roads extremely practical. especially after upgrading them and researching tech at the library you can increase your maximum road unites in your town.
Free money and quicker defenses; what's not to like?

But yeah, every building connected to roads which are connected to your town center generate an additional 10% gold. If you plan wisely, this can start to rack up quickly!

True that most loot comes from raiding but that doesn't mean I don't try to connect my buildings to roads. No I won't sacrifice defensive capabilities to do so but that isn't so hard anyways.

I'm curious to see if roads could present a more defensive possibility in the end game. It would be interesting to see if you could upgrade how fast your troops move across roads. Just a thought.

I have Stonehenge, so having every building connected to a road is the easiest (though as others have said, not the quickest) way for me to make money. It's nice to wake up in the morning or come home from work and have a good stash of cash.
