I'm making the plunge into enlightenment age and I was wondering if French is what I should stay with or maybe British for the ranged troops or German because I see a lot of German bases. Can some of you give me some pros and cons please. Thanks

Get training blessing first then go Brits. The riflemen are too generalized EA upward and +1 range simply made your horde of shooters untouchable. You only need to care of mortar building.

French tank is great but as walls get stronger it's way better to shoot over it. Never tried German though but Brits simply outshine other nations.

Upgrade temple, start using training blessing, imagine playing when training is twice as long. If you'd be ok with longer training times, feel free to switch. Seriously, try it for awhile before you decide. I would've quit if I didn't switch to French (after they nerfed the training blessing). IMO, French is better for resource gathering, but I never tried British. However, I would not be able to wait twice as long, then I'd be attacked, etc. French allows me to stay online for the whole blessing and gather lots of resources.

Don't think you should switch out the french too quickly. You are still early in the game. The French have their plus points. As do the Germans, Romans and British. (And some say the Koreans)

Usually these 5 are what the more serious players switch to. So don't give up on the French just yet until you have fully understand what you are giving up on.

If you give up the French, you are giving up on :
-Training boost
-Extra Alliance gate (that little bit extra for that 1 extra howitzer or tank)
-1 of the 2 best tanks in the game (think of all the oil you will save not having to build HTs)

BTW. ..I'm a German user. The way I'm playing, Germans are the best for me.

Germans
-15% fury on all troops. Mercs, donations, gens and planes (Need I say more)
-Rally boost (awesome if you intend to use HTs)

Brute strength, speed and control in a package.

But I still have to give credit to where it is due. Give the French a little more time. At lease until mid IA.

Great information guys. I do like the benefits from the French, that is why I changed to that nation in the last age. I just wanted to see if there was a clear cut path I should take at this point. It's just my wife and I that play so I get all my ideas from this forum. Thank you all.

Stay French unless they have a 1/2 price** Nation change event, then think about it again.

** Except Greeks who get a 2/1 offer :)
*** But a change to Greeks will be free!

Another advantage to staying as the French: you can skip the factory and the heavy tanks and still do well. Your tanks are strong, and you might not need to build a factory, upgrade the heavy tanks, and the associated library chapters. This can result in not having to gather resources for an additional line of upgrade.

Not trying out the HTs is a missed opportunity. Trying them out and turning away from them is a crime :)

What are the plus points to playing Romans beyond GP, or even Medieval?

Romans just not as good as British German French. Their unique units is soon not effective. From IA you can have extra heavy tank, but heavy tank is mostly a toy and cost enormous amount of resource to try. Just ignore the whole factory things and you can have top grade air force instead.

No I agree with Flash. French tanks are powerful enough to use in lieu of the HTs - and you can utilise the troop space elsewhere.

Yes... the HTs are awesome for other users except for the French. But why spend so much oil and troop space when you can have a barrack tank 80-85% just as good as the HT and 60% lesser troop space.

Not to mention the rss and time spent on upgrading the HTs so that they are usable in battles.

HTs have splash but french tanks are faster and go directly for the defences.

Everyone has their own right to play the game they want to but I would choose 5 French tanks over 2 HTs any day.

Ps: I'm not French and I'm a HT user. Just in case anyone thinks I'm biased towards the French tanks because I'm french. It's just my observations. =)
